might need a coolant temp sensor, the computer may think the vehicle hasn't warmed up

that would make sense/my temp gauge as been jumping around alot. not slowly, but quickly shacking back and forth. Thermostat has been change, same with the water pump. so ill try the sensor, anyone know where its at on a 94 lumina z34?

They are usually close to the thermostat in the intake manifold

Check the Idle Air Valve

Start looking at the wiring for the temp sensor, maybe even with the car running at high idle start wiggling them around to see if idle drops/fans run

ther are usually 2 temp sensors, make sure you got the right one. the fans are run by a relay that is powered by the temp sensor.

i have same problem in my 98/3.1 occurs randomly, nothing in the throttle linkage binding, as the plate is firmly touching the idle screw. replaced teh pcv off the bat, still happens. I keep thinking vacuum b/c all the experience in the past with carburated engines that was sometimes teh fault - no idea if that carries on to computerized fuel injection.
AT ONE TIME, the hush panel was keeping the accelerator pedal from moving all the way back, check that.

my temp gauge is steady. occurs cold and hot. sometimes tapping the accelerator helps. sometimes it happens for a couple minutes, sometimes for 50+ miles.

oh yeah, and my current problem with my intake gaskets that are leaking (common problem) - an intake leak can cause a high idle... check your intake all around find any trace of brown sludge near your gaskets, or any trace of antifreeze leaking

I have the high idle problem AND the leaky intake gaskets, you might, too.
