Removing rear deck on 97 grand amGrandam97 04-07-2004, 08:16 PM hey i am replacing the read 6x9 speakers and i dont know how to remove the gray carpeting above them. ive looked it over and havent seen a way to get it off. it looks like the outside of the seating ahs to be removed but i cant get it off. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks Markgase2000 04-08-2004, 12:10 AM pull pins , push the rear seat backings so its open to the trunk. Theres a grey plastic threshold that lines up with the seats , it has trim pins that pull out easily , once its off pull up and out on the gray piece its easy. The 6x9's have 2 black things that you push in to pull the speaker out. pontiaclover97 01-02-2005, 06:12 PM I found that going in the trunk and removing the screws from the bottom is the easiest way, rather than removing the seats and such. kallenbach_05 01-02-2005, 08:34 PM my seat doesnt fold down in the back and there are no screws in the trunk underneath to remove the carpet so how do i remove the speakers. the previous owner put Sony 6X9's in and they blew so i need to replace them. Any help would be appreciated on exactly how to remove the seat. pontiaclover97 01-02-2005, 10:03 PM Depending what year your grand am is, it might be a little different. First you have to remove two 1/2" bolts that are between the back seat and the floor carpet. Just move you hard along the front of the seat and you should feel one on each side a cut in the carpet where the bolts are. pontiaclover97 01-02-2005, 10:05 PM So take off the bottom of the seat. Then I think, there should be two tork bolts, I haven't seen those yet but I heard that they're there. I'm not sure either how to get them off. I guess a tork wrench. Or I did this but it's a pain, there are three metal clips that you should see from the trunk, bend those with a wrench and your back seat will fold down about 45 degrees. pontiaclover97 01-02-2005, 10:06 PM then, lastly I heard that you should remove some of the side paneling and then the deck cover should come out. But since I didn't do this way I really don't know. It's not my fault if you bust your car. pontiaclover97 01-02-2005, 10:07 PM Just to check again, there should be four screws on each speaker. check to see if those are there, if they are take a wrenching and turn them the other way. it's easy. kallenbach_05 01-02-2005, 11:41 PM I got the bottom part out, now just need to go get a torx head that will fit the bolt to get the back part out. thanks for the help. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
