I've got a 93 Nissan Altima. Car starts fine, however in "On" mode the interior electronics do not get power. If I turn the key back (CCW) about 1/3 of the way to Acc, these items (power mirrors, windshield wipers, clock etc) get power. The speedometer, entirely electronic / no cables, works intermittently and the stereo never receives power except for once for about 2 seconds months ago.

Checked the continuity of the 6 lead ignition switch adapter and only a few paths are correct. Obvious case of replacement . . . but do I replace just the switch & electronic harness ($50) or replace the entire tumbler, switch & harness assembly ($150)? There really isn't slop in the key axially or transversely . . . just rotationally. I'm wondering if I can get away with the electronics only. I'm envisioning the tumbler to only mechanically control whether you are allowed to rotate the switch or not. So I should only need to replace the whole thing if the key is falling out or shakes inside the tumbler?

Trying to do this job this weekend. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks.

I have a similar problem with my 93 altima except everything but the radio gets power in the acc position. I swapped the radio for a working one but got nothing. let me know how the repair goes.

i think i would replace the switch first it might be causing the bad reading at the harness save you money.
