Is it legal to have german licence plates a U.S. driven car if they have the same number and registration as my American counterparts?

Hmm, call your local DMV and ask, then try to reach a state office and ask there. Because I really don't know. I think if the car is permanantly in the US, then you can't, but if its just visiting...but I am assuming you're staying. When we moved to Germany for 3 years, my mom took her Subaru, and she got a german license plate, then when we moved back, we switched again to US, so I am thinking that they will say no...but it can't hurt to call and ask.

It's legal to have them installed, but they don't qualify as a replacement for the US-issued front plate (if required).
