Park Ave Charging Light Problem.

This morning I went to the car, got everyone packed up in the car, a few minutes have gone by and now I sit down to drive away and notice hmmm, the charge warning light is on. Crap, there's 13V indicated, VOM says 13.1 at idle, ok what the deal? No problem, had to go to the office quick, then after I got to the office (6 miles), the light is still on. Ok, I know I'm looking for a problem now...

The light stays on when I start rolling again and then BAM, volt meter hits 18V, crap, regulator. So, I go to my handy advance auto, get a new alternator (yes I was certain that the regulator is shot). Put the new alternator in the car, no problem, fires up, no problem EXCEPT: the darn light on the dash is still on. I'm hitting about 14.4VDC on the VOM, 14-14.5 on the dash meter, there's 14.4 coming off the alternator, no problem...but the darn light won't go away.

Anyone have any clues on this mystery light, or do I need to do a reset somewhere???

Thanks for any advice that you can offer!

John

Edited since I forgot to put year in...ooops.
