Hey guys!!!! I bought my aurora ive been talking about for the last couple days. Got a '95 w/ 106k on the odom. I liked the ride home its really powerful and quick. The interior is immaculate, I mean SPOTLESS!!! Only real issue I had w/ the wonderful 50 mile drive home is: Theres a bit of hesitation when youre driving along. If I have my foot steady on the gas I can feel the car sort of speed up a little or slow down just a little and i see the rpm's move up/down slightly. Its barely noticable but I do notice it. Should I be worried, what do you guys think this is? Is it expensive? I know I will get some GREAT replies as always so thanks in advance. Otherwise the car is GREAT. Also I have to keep reminding myself, even if there are problems, I only paid 3 grand...

Check the plug wires where they lay across the valve covers. If you see where the wires have been arcing, you may need to replace the plugs and wires. Use AC Delco plugs and wires only; I've seen at least a dozen posts from people who didn't and had problems/eventually had to switch to the "genuine GM part".

Another way to test is, with the car running, take a spray bottle filled with water, and (mist only!) spray (not too close) the wires. If you get a fireworks show, yes, they need to be replaced, if not, you need to look further.

Driving for awhile with bad plugs/wires can lead to the coil packs going bad.

Other things that may need to be looked at would include the fuel filter, fuel injectors (does the car chug a little at idle after startup/RPMs fluctuate?) and throttle body/idle air control/EGR valve... these are all "standard maintenance" items which a lot of people don't do, and aren't super-expensive (and are not too difficult to do if you or a friend are handy with a wrench :-)

Hope this gives you some pointers,

P.S. Might I suggest you peruse eBay for service manual sets for your car. They do come in handy when working on it.

read the manual and wait two months before you spend any money on it.. Unless you really have to..

THANKS RobertHammen and ckpaas. Like I said in my post, I knew I would get GREAT replies and here they are!!! Not a bad idle just a little hesitation. Scared to run A/C also until I have the system checked, Ive heard too many horror stories about the bad compressors! The two times ive met w/ the original owner she had the air on but I still dont want to chance it! Thanks againg guys. It's my birthday today so of course I have to take my aurora out for "A little spiiinnn" :evillol:

Tomorrow (April 4) marks my three year anniversary with my black on black '98. I loved the car when I first saw it in April of 1994, and wanted one badly (ordered the brochure), but could not afford it. Fast forward to 2001, when I accidentally stumbled across my dream car, as I would have optioned it, sitting (with low miles) at an Olds dealer near me, for a very affordable price.

Like any relationship, it's had its highs and its lows (mostly relating to repairs). However, after about three hours of driving today, a mixture of spirited driving and relaxed cruising, I can honestly say that I love this car. Sometimes the reality doesn't live up to the dream, but not in this case :-)

Someone mentioned checking to see that all the bolts and standoffs holding down the nylon intake manifold are tight. He said a vacuum leak due to lots of loose hardware caused him troubles. I've yet to tinker with mine, but I like FREE fixes personally. Better directions can be had with a little searching (it couldn't have been more than a couple of weeks ago I saw that post).
