Removing Pitting Old Chome & Rust on carexodia51 04-02-2004, 01:47 AM How do you remove pitting on old chrome pieces? Also if a car has a light rust on the body what do I use to sand it down before I get it painted? Help !!! :screwy: nhoth2o 11-03-2004, 10:07 PM Pitted chrome usually can be solved with “SOS” or “BRILLO” pads. Just rub down the bumper or what have you, and then be sure to apply a heavy coat of chrome polish. Beyond that the only other choice is to get it re-chromed. Light body rust can be removed by the DIY-er with any number of things. The key is that you get all the rust out of the pits. There is a tool you can pick up anywhere including AZ or advance that goes in your drill. It looks like a round sponge, it work great. Once removed be sure to use a good grade primer (NOT LAQUER BASED) to seal out the weather. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
