? on purchasing Turbo IIAndrewR85 04-01-2004, 09:11 PM Ok, so there's a 10AE in my area for sale at a dealership for $4,000. 118k miles on the clock. I don't trust dealerships too much, so I might look for another one. If I decide to do so, should I see if they have all the service records? If not, should I just back away? There's also another TII about 10 minutes from my dorm at a dealership with 80k miles for 500 less, so I have another option. MBTN 04-01-2004, 10:07 PM Bleh, dealerships... That 10AE motor is on it's way out. I recommend checking the other one. Steel 04-02-2004, 01:19 AM You can prolly talk that dealer down a few hundred bucks with that many miles on the clock, esp. if it's a turbo. Don't forget that there were only 2500 (iirc?) 10AE's made, so there's people out there that would kill for them. Just be ready to rebuild it soon. If you honestly don't care and/or you don't like white cars and/or you don't wanna rebuild the engine anytime soon, i'd go with the less expensive one. I love white FCs, but as of right now, paint isn't that important to me. I'd rather have the engine running well than looking super amazing. There's always time for a respray. Aruba27 04-02-2004, 02:16 AM what's a 10AE <------ :newbie: that's to save you guys the trouble Aruba27 04-02-2004, 02:20 AM wait, nevermind... I figured it out... 10th anneversary edition! woo hoo, that's why i go to school! Soyo 04-02-2004, 03:58 PM school is pointless, drop out :) AndrewR85 04-04-2004, 07:56 PM So I went to the dealership to check it out the possible 10AE and this is how the conversation with the dealer went: Dealer: "Can I help you today, sir?" Me: "Yes, your ad on Auto Trader says you have a 1988 Mazda RX-7 here?" D: "Ooohh...yea...did you call earlier?" M: "No." D: "Well, turns out there was a leaky fuel line and the car um...caught fire. It's being repaired right now, but you can still buy it once the work is finished" M: "Not a chance *walks back to his car* " I had someone run a carfax report for me and it turns out it has a salvage title...that was issued in 19-fucking-92! Apparently there was severe damage done to the car. Just a friendly reminder to ALWAYS check CarFax before you buy a car... Soyo 04-04-2004, 10:48 PM dodged a bullet there! MBTN 04-04-2004, 10:59 PM Probably the pulsation damper... Steel 04-05-2004, 12:07 AM you could prolly get it for REAL cheap now :D AndrewR85 04-05-2004, 12:58 AM Well, my dad agreed to bump up my budget to $7500 (He's getting the loan, i'm paying him back with car payments), so i'll probably be able to find a MUCH better FC than this one. There's an '89 GTUs with 140k miles for sale about 100 miles from my house in NoVA. Asking $7000 for it. Is that too much? drftk1d 04-05-2004, 12:58 AM I had someone run a carfax report for me and it turns out it has a salvage title...that was issued in 19-fucking-92! Apparently there was severe damage done to the car. Just a friendly reminder to ALWAYS check CarFax before you buy a car... Thats why i dont have a 240 anymore. dayna240sx 04-05-2004, 01:17 AM There's an '89 GTUs with 140k miles for sale about 100 miles from my house in NoVA. Asking $7000 for it. Is that too much? Holy hell... Is it heavily modified? I'm selling mine for $1000 AndrewR85 04-05-2004, 01:40 AM Holy hell... Is it heavily modified? I'm selling mine for $1000 From the ad: "1989 Mazda RX-7 GTUs. 1 of 1,000 made. Kenwood stereo, Racing Beat stainless steel mufflers, K&N Filter, excellent condition." Yea...definitely not worth $7k. I guess he thinks that since only 1,000 were made, he can sell it for 7,000 DevoutWankelist 04-05-2004, 02:50 PM Your selling your GTUs for 1000? Any better description? AndrewR85 04-05-2004, 09:39 PM I think i've found my Turbo II  1987 Turbo II 56k original miles Never taken above 6,000RPM Owner has had 6 other RX-7s Never abused (owner is 46 years old) Purchased in 2001 with 48k miles Bone stock (wouldn't even let his son put in a boost controller) $3000 in South Carolina (i'm in NoVA) Said for extra, he'd deliver Man...I GOTTA get this car... dayna240sx 04-05-2004, 10:15 PM Thats a pretty good deal... But remember "Never taken above 6,000RPM" is NOT a good thing... Soyo 04-05-2004, 11:17 PM yea, never over 6,000 can spell lots of trouble, if those ports are frozen shut your screwed! dayna240sx 04-06-2004, 12:46 AM dont let us scare you though, its definatly a good deal, do you know the vin number? Let me know and I'll tell you if its an 87 or 87 1/2 because theres a big difference in them... Aruba27 04-06-2004, 12:47 AM what's the difference? dayna240sx 04-06-2004, 12:51 AM injectors, water overflow is different, ecu is differnet, harness is differnet, different stearing wheel, different seats, the two tone seats are pretty rare if it has those. Its pretty much a bunch of little stuff. What color is it? Aruba27 04-06-2004, 12:52 AM dayna, you are so cool dayna240sx 04-06-2004, 12:53 AM Thank you, AndrewR85 04-06-2004, 07:13 AM injectors, water overflow is different, ecu is differnet, harness is differnet, different stearing wheel, different seats, the two tone seats are pretty rare if it has those. Its pretty much a bunch of little stuff. What color is it? It's kind of a gray color. The guy is gonna send me more pics that I requested (interior, gauge cluster, more exterior and engine shots) and the VIN later today. I'll be sure to post up pics AndrewR85 04-06-2004, 01:21 PM Well, now my dad is being retarded. Bringing up things like "I don't think i'd want to buy a car I haven't seen yet" and "I'm concerned about the reliability of an RX-7." Just thought of an idea to combat the first issue: A friend and I wake up early on Sat. morning, drive down to South Carolina, meet the guys, drive the car. If I like it then my dad and I could meet them halfway the following weekend. If I don't like it, oh well...it's not like my car only gets 11 miles per gallon, so that's just $20 or $30 spent on gas. MBTN 04-06-2004, 01:53 PM I wouldn't worry about the 6000RPM's. The ports aren't frozen shut because they open at 3800, so they've definately opened. 6000 is 1000 below redline, so I wouldn't worry that much. But if you do get it you should take it to 7k often. ;) Soyo 04-06-2004, 04:30 PM oh I forgot 7k is redline on those... S5's is at 8k... so they probably aren't frozen shut... but still be sure and check everything out and like he said... redline her as much as you want :) RB25240kouki 04-06-2004, 09:24 PM Its time to learn you ALL. Frist off your all talking about ports opening... Its a TURBO II were talking about here... Turbos have a 4 port motor which doesnt not have the actuated 5th and 6th ports... those are on the NAs. Second the redline of a S5 TII isnt 8k its 7k. Only the NA s5 went to 8k (as far as FCs go anyway). And I can almost garrenty that it HAS been taken above 6k RPM. If his son wanted to put in a boost controller then he probably drove it... and if wants to put in a boost controller he probably wants to go fast(er) which means in all liklyhood he has taken it above 6k RPM. Anyway, its not like you all DONT know your stuff... its just that you confused the NAs with the Turbos (as far as setup) and anyway I could be way wrong... but Id sh*t a brick if i was. Happy rotoring. dayna240sx 04-08-2004, 02:17 AM Its time to learn you ALL... how to spell. Soyo 04-08-2004, 09:32 PM It's time to learn you ALL... grammer as well. Aruba27 04-09-2004, 12:55 AM how did dayna get banned? dayna240sx 04-09-2004, 01:12 AM I'm back... It was just a missunderstanding with a moderator. Luckly Igor is the coolest and unbanned me Aruba27 04-09-2004, 01:19 AM wow, glad to know ur back! that sure was fast. TurboFC3s 04-12-2004, 08:37 AM Damn....7G's. i sold my 89 in december 2003 for 1800 bux with a racing beat road race exhaust system and lowered on some BBS looking things. I guess i was just done abusing it and ready to pass it on to another young soul......lol vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
