What should EGT be around at idle?soyee7 04-01-2004, 07:12 PM I just installed my EGT guage (what a bitch), my idle temp is around 600, is this normal, it seemd kinda low to me. Also when i turn the car off the needle takes a while to go down, is this normal or should the needle drop all the way down when the car is off. (my EGT is installed 2 inches below where my DP meets the O2 housing.) FourG63 97GST 04-01-2004, 07:20 PM First off, Why did you put it on the downpipe? and what EGT gauge u have? for me I have a Greddy EGT, when its warm at idle 400C/750F pullin up to a stop light it chill at 500C/932F Mine is tapped into the exhaust manifold 4" off the number 1 runner like everyone else soyee7 04-01-2004, 07:36 PM I have the autometer, and the directions said "for turbo cars install the probe 1-2 inches from the turbo exhaust outlet." thats why i installed it there. , but the numbers sound right. Thanx kjewer1 04-01-2004, 08:56 PM Who cares what it is at idle. Its hardly useful at WOT, I cant think of any reason it would be useful at idle :D It will take time to drop after you come back to idle because the exhaust parts are still very hot. In fact, I used to wait to shut the car off until EGT dropped and stabilized. I seem to remember mine to idle at 500c after driving also , number 2 runner. Be careful how you use the information you get from this gauge. Its a great way to slow yourself down if you believe all of the internet myths. Search on www.dsmtuners.com with "egt" and "95gsxracer" for username, and you should get a novel I wrote on the subject. If someone does do this, be a champ and post the link for everyone :D ashah000 04-01-2004, 09:11 PM soyee7 04-01-2004, 09:19 PM thank you vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
