I'm Gonna Change The Spark Plugs And Wires This Weekend My Car Has 86,000 On It. I Just Bought It. Its A Fully Loaded 1998 Aurora Beautifull Car Milk White. Anyhow I Was Wondering What Spark Plugs To Use Was Looking Into Splitfire Plugs Or Bosch Platnium Plugs. Has Anyone Ever Used These Plugs And What Would You Recomend. Also Any Special Wires To Use????

Trying after market plugs and wires on a Northstar engine is just asking for trouble as the Northstar series of engines are very picky. I will only use factory AC Delco plugs and wires in my Aurora and if you do a search you will find that so do most others.

BKVick couldnt have said it better best I have found is AC Delco professional platnium plugs and AC Delco wires they come with a lifetime warrenty how can you beat that. From some of the research on plugs I have done it said that multiple sparks from one plug produce a weaker spark overall than a single and more chance of carbon fouling with multiple electrodes.

NGK Iridium IX Plugs are my favorite. They get me 30mpg on the highway. Borg-Warner Select are the best wires you can get as well.

Splitfire is a rip-off. If you understand electronics the whole concept is false. The spark will arc across the most efficient path and the rest of the "Spitfire Tip" will corrode. They will work but NO BETTER than a regular set of standard plugs.

I have Bosch +4's and have 10,000 mi on them, 0 problems and happy I used them..

They're not just a gimick, it is a very common design among airplane engines. I don't want to have to change plugs again anytime soon so I went with the extended life of the plus 4.

I know youve posted before about how well your car runs with these plugs and wires but Ive read enough posts on this site about all the trouble poeple have with after market plugs and wires in their Northstar engines that it isnt worth the gamble to me. Each engine is different and while yours runs great with this combo its hard to say if everyones will but we all know the AC Delco wires and the AC Delco professional platnium plugs work great. Id sure hate to put down over $100 for plugs and wires only to find they cause my car run worse.

I've had the Bosch platuinum 4s and the Bosch platinum series wires in my car for almost a year now and there has been zero problems.

i agree with everyone else use ac delco platinum plugs..the part number is 8#41-950...as for the plug wires, you cant go wrong with the ac delco..borg warner are not bad either..i believe the ac wires run about $125.00 and the borg warner around $85.00,,,,plugs should be $50.00

I second that emotion! Double platnum plugs /wires
Ac delco/GM. w/high octane gas. Is there really such a thing anymore as 91 Octane:evillol: Those days are probably gone...(rumor)

Absolutely. Like anything, ELECTRICITY FOLLOWS THE PATH OF LEAST RESISTANCE!!! Good thing to remember if you get stumped on something. Having multiple prongs on a spark plug makes for a neat looking spark plug. That's it.
Also a thing to keep in mind with plugs, on anything, go with what it calls for. 95% of the time you don't have to, but you know the OEM part will work. Dodge-Champion. Ford-Autolite. GM-Delco. Look at the threads. A Champion may have longer or shorter threads than a Delco for the same application. Meaning: shorter threaded plugs leave exposed threads in the head open to the combustion chamber, it they're too long, the spark plug's threads may be in the combustion chamber. Try removing a spark plug that had too many threads and has been in the engine for a couple years. OR, try asking a mechanic how much fun stripped spark plug threads are. Replacing heads isn't fun when the only problem is a spark plug hole that won't take a plug, imagine going through that and cutting the check for it on a Northstar.
My $.02

Does AC Delco make spark plugs that have a copper core? Iradium is nice because they last forever, but copper has less resistance and much less expensive. I dont mind changing them every 30k. Any part #'s for a AC Delco plug that is copper? Thanx in advance.

AC Delco Professional Platinum plugs are around $6.50 each. That's $52 every 30k mi. You can handle that!

Of course! The price is not a problem - I was just wondering if AC delco made equivelent plugs with a copper core.

I think the engine was designed around the cooler burning platinum cored plug. The higher compression of the engine would tend to eat up standard plugs(higher cylinder temps)and that did not fit into GM's 100k mi. tune up plan. When I bought my car it seemed to run okay but I had no baseline to judge by. Some joker had put in standard AC plugs and they looked terrible when I pulled them out due to mis-fire(Borg wires). I have checked on a few of the platinums I installed over the last 15k mi. and they look great.

Since your answer is based on experience you have me convinced :) Platinums here I come! BTW this applies to the shortstar too (I have the 3.5)?

They might not be quite as picky, but I'd still go with the delco plugs and wires.

It's my understanding that at least part of what makes 4.0s touchy is the higher compresison ratio. Your 3.5l has a 9.3:1 ratio instead of the 10.3:1.
