TC3 VS NITRO raceSkillet 03-29-2004, 09:46 PM I have a team associated TC3 RTR. I'm going to add a unlimited speed controller and a 7turn motor. LRP F1 Pro Forward & Reverse Electronic Speed Control and the motor is Reedy Ti 7 turn Double (7x2) Modified Motor - ASC 383. I was wondering what kind of speed can I expect to see from it in MPH IF someone has a general idea I have 7 cell 3000's (batteries) is there anything I should to my suspension before I add these upgrades? Stuff should be coming in the mail in a couple of days... Gotta race against a Nitro car :lol2: Or if some one has a really good Speed set-up let me know.. We are using GPS units to clock the top MPH on these things.. Gas car so far has gotten up to 51.3.. mine with a modified 19turn came up to 27MPH  I'm trying to breech 60+++ Psman32@af 03-30-2004, 01:13 PM That all depends on how it is geared. teh fastest touring car I have seen is a TC3 that ran 96 mph that team associated ran with 14 cells adn a brushless motor. for the more part, electric touring cars= the suck for top end. electric pan cars are another story. I got a 9 turn double in it right now, and if it reaches 45k rpm (which seems retty resonable, wish i had a dyno sheet for one) it would reach in theory abotu 80 mph with my current gearing. to get the most speed out of your car, get a 35 tooth pinion and a 66 tooth spur gear. use that with your 7 cell of 3000's and your 7 turn, and you should see soem crazy speed. I hope its nice out today so i can run my 9t double in my pan car.... Skillet 03-30-2004, 08:48 PM Pan car? Don't quite know what that is. I will go out and buy a few sets of gears. My spur gear got destroyed by a pebble.. well lets say a few pebbles. I was out running in the parking lot and it became lodged in my pinion gear. well I have a nice little hole in the spur for every revolution that the pinion made. :uhoh: Car was running just fine and it became really loud all of a sudden. Didn't find the problem until I got home. Even though I've removed the pebble the car is still quite loud. I will replace those gears. I have another question. When my car gets out pretty far it starts acting erratic. For sure its within radio range of the transmitter. I've heard that by wrapping the power wires from the speed controller to the motor it cancels RF interference. Does this ring true to your ears?? Still waiting on my stuff to arrive in the mail :banghead: I want to race!!! :banghead: Psman32@af 03-31-2004, 08:11 AM its basically a piece of graphite with a motor and four wheels, they are so bloody fast. i could post a pic of mine.... Ya, if you keep runnign those gears, tehy will strip out, so get some new ones and throw those away. for pure speed, get a 35 tooth pinion and a 66 tooth spur. How far is pretty far? it could be from a few things, any metal to metall contact in teh area will cause it to glitch. ive had mine glitch from someone shutting a car door. so check to make sure all yours screws are tightened. Also, your crystals could be damaged, and they could also be causing it. Check to make sure your caps are still on your motors and arent damaged. I dont thinkt hat wrapping the motor wires around each other would have any effect. id ont think those would interfer with a radio signal. I do know that they make a magnetic signal. wouldnt hurt, but I cant think of a time where that has helped me. Skillet 03-31-2004, 05:36 PM I don't think the crystals are damaged. I will sit down this weekend and see If can come up with a reason for that erratic driving. those gears are now rubber band frisbees. ( they don't fly very well either) Went to my local Hobby Shop and as usual they are out of everything I need. Pretty big place but they don't seem to have anything in stock I need. Will just order online from now on. and how far is pretty far?? good question I have a HI-tech AM radio.. Going to switch it soon anyway.. At those speeds I will need range.. Now everyone in the aircraft hangar is waiting for my stuff to arrive. They want to see me race this NITRO car he he he he What do you think my chances of beating him are? I will get back to you with him car model in a bit.. Psman32@af 04-01-2004, 10:36 AM depends on what engine his car has, if its a .15 engine init, you should be toe to toe or even have an edge in accel, but gas vehicles have a better chance at higher top ends, cause they react differenetly to really high gearing. if you want to beat him, get a pan car or an oval car. he wont stand a chance. i gotta get mine fixed, i broke the servo saver part..... If you got the money, get an XR3 from JR, best FM radio for the money. the XS3 rocks, no more crystals. Skillet 04-01-2004, 06:33 PM He only has a .15 engine. but the thing is he cannot control it he he he Looks like I will be a couple hundred dollars richer next week.. We are going to plot a course and for sure I will beat him on acceleration.. I can do that even now with my modified 19 turn engine. That radio without a crystal looks great!! I will probably order it before the end of April. Question how do you get stars in your name? I see you have several justl like other people.. Psman32@af 04-02-2004, 08:48 AM You get stars by posting and by being here longer. the more posts you have, the more stars you get. dont post useless posts though, otherwise you will get banned. im a moderator, so my basr of stars is full. the XS3 is an awesome radio, its the one i use for my maxx, my pan car, and my rs4 mt. all the crystalk frequencies are synthesized so you dont need any external crystals on the transmitter or the reciever that comes with it. you just program into the transmitter what crstal number you want and it sends out that freq, and turn a few dials on the reciever it comes with, and it looks for all signals at that crsytal freq. its on the expensive side though. mine was aroun $200. I think you would win, speciually if you get a really tall gear ratio. just test it out ahead of time. Skillet 04-02-2004, 06:27 PM Ok all my stuff is on the way.. Went to the useless hobby shop and that guy told me that he is surprised I didn't burn up my motor. Currently (until my super stuff arrives) I'm running a 6 cell 3000 battery with a modified 19 turn quad motor from reedy. spur gear is stock and pinion is 27 The motor does get hot yes but not super hot. is that pinion too big for that motor? Also look at these batteries http://fusionbatteries.biz/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=GP33007-R&Category_Code= 80.00 for one set but they even come with Heatsinks!!! looks like the best battery I've seen so far... I'm about to order a heatsink for my motor also just in case. Was even thinking about mounting a really small fan inside too... Last think I need is a burned out 7t motor :uhoh: I will order that radio next week... Gosh this is expensive  gigglesnirt 04-02-2004, 10:54 PM i think you could beat the nitro car if you were on a circuit racetrack with lots of turns, and not to many straight aways, unless the owner of the nitro has gotten acceleration on his better you should be able to win it Skillet 04-03-2004, 02:04 AM Naa I'm in Maryland.. we are going to race next Friday. the whole hangar will be out to see it. I just ordered those high end batteries. also got some better connectors than what came with the car. Have to do a bit of soldering for them. bought some new tires, gears, and a few extra things. Guy at the hobby shop told me that the motor will draw so much current the old connectors will weld themselves together. We are going to race in a wide open parking lot. all straight runs probably 2 turns. Thats why I need all the juice and power I can get. Most people agreed that I should be able to beat him with that 7t motor and those high end batteries. Skillet 04-05-2004, 06:11 PM I was wondering how should I cool my Motor, Heatsink, and batteries while running. Considered installing a really small fan but that would increase my total weight and I would need a way to power it. I could use the battery thats installed. That shouldn't affect my run times too much do you think? I also had another idea. Cutting out some holes on the body and installing intakes. So the air pressure from the car moving would force air over the motor.... etc.. Wanted to use ducts to direct the flow. I should have a Motor heatsink coming in the mail soon. Anyone have other ideas??? Psman32@af 04-06-2004, 08:23 AM a 40 mm fan should work pretty good, those are nice and small and pretty light. cpu fans, most of them, take a really low amp rate. i mean my 120 mm LED fan takes like .3 amps or somethign at 12 volts.id say get a small 40 or 60 mm fan adn use that if you want to use a fan, or do the ducting work like you were talkign about. that wouldnt be that bad of an idea to even put a few holes into your body, but the ducting will work better. i was going to try the ducting, ijust never did. hey i could always race him, i gotta race this one kid who thinks that gas is better then electric in everyway shape and form. he bases that on teh fact he had a crap car with a crap 540 closed endbell motor that prob doesnt do over 10k rpm. oh well, ill show him. Skillet 04-09-2004, 01:33 AM ok got the 12turn double wound motor in the car and those batteries. limitless speed controller and I took the car out on a test run Used a GPS car ran 59.0mph first run.. after that I got consistent times of 38-40 mph. using a 35 tooth pinion and a 72 tooth spur. other gears and 7turn motor still coming :grinno:  :grinno: Psman32@af 04-12-2004, 11:24 AM another thing to do is try to increase teh voltage and add as many cells as teh speed controller can handle. you will be able to do more than just beat him. by the way, it was covereed in RCCA they had a tc3 hit 96 mph. Skillet 04-13-2004, 12:23 AM I'm already at the maximum number of cells for my batteries the 7 cell 3300s going to take that reedy stock motor and do a little experiment with it. its a 19t quad so I will modify it and see if i can make it a 4 turn. I have nothing to lose if I burn out the motor because I probably won't use it again anyway. but if it works.......  Skillet 04-19-2004, 06:17 PM Looks like i'm the guy to beat... hes not faster.. ha ha ha ha ha ha ha I can't even reach top speed.. I run out of space. do you think I can modify an old motor to a 5 turn? I was also finding out that with my current set-up I overheat. now I have a 69 spur and 27 Pinion. but that 7 turn is creating a massive amount of heat for my speed controller and motor. I did cut a hole in the windshield but I do think ducting it like mentioned earlier would be a better cooling solution. I will just put a fan along the ducted path so it will get cooled constantly with a little pressure boost from running. any idea on what type of materials I should use to make the duct? vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
