Anyone experiencing a clunking type sound when upshifting between 1 and 2nd gears. Also at hwy speeds @65-70 at about 2000rpm's and then give it the gas and it clunks????

2002 3.5 with 31k on it........

PS my local dealer in Smithtown is not very helpful at all.

I won't be of too much help since I have an old style Aurora, but I would suggest doing your correspondence to the dealer and perhaps higher up the GM foodchain in writing instead of by phone. It's amazing what a few letters (potential evidence) in the right hands can motivate service departments to do. I couldn't be farther from the litigious type, but THEY don't need to know that.

At the very least it gives you proof that you had a problem and they were aware of it before your warranty period is out.

Geez :( you figure at 31K you would still have factory warranty or at least extended for that kinda thing.

Regardless of whether its major or minor its GMs duty to make sure a 2002 with 31K is not causing problems....

Id take it to a different dealer if your current dealer cant or wont help. I know Olds is gone but this WAS Olds premier car any problems should be fixed by GM to your satisfaction.

I checked with the dealer today about this problem. They claim they can't do anything. Bullpuck! It seems to be a common problem in GM cars. Still, how can a car that cost over 40Grand three years ago shift gears so horribly? Wonder if it has anything to do with temp.

I've had this problem with all my GM cars. Read somewhere that it might be related to the CV joints going bad. One time I took it to the deal and ask them to look at the CV joints. They tolds me I had a bad strut seat or something. So they replaced it and the cars didn't clunk as much. However, that clunking might the the synchros in the tranny acting up.
