Changing Rear Air Shocks

Just ordered a set of rear air shocks. The original ones on my '96 have 90,000 miles - and are caked with fluid from leaks.

In any event - does anyone have any info / advice / suggestions on how to properly change the shocks and then test the air level system?

I assume that I need to support the rotor assembly when I disconnect the shocks. Are the monting nuts in the trunk hard to access? Any special tricks?

Thanks for any input...

No special tricks that i recall but I do remember wanting a third hand to hold the nut clips for the bottom connection.

I also developed a noise just after replacing the rear shocks and solved the issue by reversing the cup washer at the top (in the trunk). It was a little tough to get the nut on but by squeezing a little more of the rubber mount into the assembly, the noise was gone.

Off to the library this afternoon to read the shop manual....

What do I have to do to access the top nut (in the trunk)? Remove all the carpeting, or is there an "access panel"? There appears to be a cut-out area on the right side with a plastic screw, didn't see anything similar on the left.

Am I correct in assuming that I need to support the lower control arm/rotor assembly - otherwise w/o the shock, the spring will push the unit down too far.
