The good 'ol oil leak

I know the Northstar engines (at least the 4.0's) are notorious for leaking at the block split. There is a TSB on this but I had a friend tell me there was a huge recall on these. Will the dealer take care of this at all or am I on my own.

I thought this was an issue more so with the 4.4 and 4.6L Nortstars.

The 4.0L Aurora engine isn't REAAAALY a Northstar, I was told its a modified Quad4 x 2

Someone wanna correct me on that one?

Sure, I'll take a stab at correcting you.

Sure seems to imply the Aurora has an identical northstar engine with a smaller bore just like I've been hearing all along.

TSB only, no recall. Also, not worth fixing. I found out the lower half of the block, where it always leaks, is also your 'main caps'. They're cast into the aluminum, so to fix the leaks you would be screwing with the rotating assembly on a motor you don't want to screw with.

Mine had the same problem (supposedly). I got lucky though. It happened for one of the previous owners. When I bought my car, after I signed the papers and was about to walk out the door, the lady says "that reminds me" and then she handed me a folder the size of a book with all of the repair receipts. (Literally as thick as a good novel book.) One of them was the repair for the engine leaking from the block. The receipt was for a few thousand dollars. It involved pulling the whole engine. I am sure glad I didn't have to pay for that!!! Sorry for you though.

BRAKLEEN!!! Hose it down, wipe it off, and leave it. My former college instructor told me straight up, if you think you need motor work on a Northstar, get a parts car.
