Fuel Filter Location?

Is the fuel filter in the 2000 Prizm inside the fuel tank or is it simply underneath the car somewhere?

Anyway, I have the "check engine" light coming on and the car will sometimes stall on startup and there is noticeable engine roughness. The diagnostics say that the fuel is too lean. Should I consider replacing the O2 sensor? Right now I was just going to replace the fuel filter and see what happens.

Thank you

The fuel filter is part of the Fuel Pump...so unless the pump needs changed dont go there. If the car runs rough and has a noticeable difference in power loss at or around 30-40 MPH the I would start with the O2 sensor as long as you are up to date on your plugs...O2 sounds like your culprite tho.

Hope this helps!!!

Thank you!

So to change the fuel filter you actually need to remove the fuel pump? That seems like a poor design...

Anyway, the power loss is most noticeable at idle/slow speeds so the O2 sensor is most likely the problem? I know where it is but never changed one out - is it a relatively easy job to change it?

Thanks again!

Anthony

Yea, super easy. Price on the other hand may be a bit high...go buy an O2 sensor socket. There is only one size. It should be located on the upper exhaust manifold or down under before the Cat. converter.

Simply diconnect the O2 sensor and take it out. Install new one.

Oh, and the filter is actually part of the fuel pump. (Shrug)

I have the same lean problem that the dealer identified and he also said to change the 35$ filter rather than guessing on the o2 sensors like which one is bad?
