2002 GT - What to do on a budget?eohrnberger 03-21-2004, 03:26 AM I have to admit that I'm a newbie to tweaking a car, so I think that this will be an interesting experience. I've got a stock 2002 GT (my daily driver), and it wasn't more than a week after I had it that I ran smack into the 106 MPH limit :evillol: I've checked around, and some recommend the Digital Horse Power PCM replacement (http://www.digitalhorsepowerinc.com/) specifically for the GT. Only bad thing is that it appears to force you to only use premium gas. Well, I don't like my options limited, and for all the other things that the DHP PCM comes with, I'm concerned about longevity of the rest of the cars systems that I'm sure that it stresses. Does anyone have any way to get rid of the 106 limit and not be forced into premium gas? I've also been thinking of improving the braking system. I was figuring that I could get a pair of stock front rotors, have then cross-drilled and slotted at a machine shop to get rid of the heat build up, which should improve the brake performance in high-heat conditions. Good idea? Bad idea? I have to admit that I'm starting to look forward to driving it a little bit harder at a local clubs drivers ed session on a road race track, and think that I'll want the greater braking capabilities. I look forward to what the members of the forum think. Thanks in advance, Erik. Ripn12s 03-21-2004, 09:26 AM I run 89 oct. gas for going back and forth to work. So I would say that your not limited to only using premium gas, it will just give you the best response. But how many times are you going to need to go over the 108 limiter? That's a great part list. Thanks! I can already feel the the master card coming out for those rotors as a first step  Well, it's not so much needing to run over 106, it's just that car has so much torque at that speed, so much acceleration left, I feel kinda cheated not being able to go any faster. Did a little bit of math: at 90 MPH she's pulling a steady 3000 RPM. Assuming a linear ratio, it would mean something like 174 at 5800. Now I know that it'll never pull all the way up to red line, but it's way more than 106. I guess I should have never gotten used to driving on the autobahn :naughty: I agree with you on octane, I typically run regular or 89 for around town, and premium once in awhile just to keep things clean and running right. But the PCM replacement demands constant premium, locking yourself in. So I was just wondering if there was another alternative really see what the car can do. Don't like artificially imposed limitations. Cheers and many thanks! Erik. Ripn12s 03-21-2004, 11:48 AM I run a Custom Tuned DHP. They just say to use premuim because you'll get the most HP out of the car, and dont want people complaining that they have a new DHP and dont feel any gain Like I said, for back and forth driving to work I run 89 oct. and usually never fill up past half a tank. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
