fuel consumption is bad for gas models, good for diesels but thats to be expected for any fullsize truck. i have to say chevy's are the best handling & smoothest riding trucks out there. i wouldn't recommend one for a work truck because they are very low to the ground and the box pannels are so thin you can dent them by leaning too hard. what do you want this truck for??? towing?? daily driver? offroading?

you should go try one out i assume your thinking about getting a 6.6 duramax diesel. in my opinion they are a great highway truck and do a good job of towing. you should try out the competition too i think the gm's have better ride quality than ford & dodge.

Trust me on the diesel, hard to swallow, but the ride and power is well worth it.

The HD will come with a 4.10 axle and that is what you want if you are going to tow anything sizable. The HD will come standard with a 6.0 also. I was extremely disappointed with the performance of my '99 5.3 K1500 Regular cab 3.73 axle. I replaced it with a 2005 GMC Yukon, 5.3 and 4.10 axle. What a huge difference in all aspects! The 4.10 axle made little impact on mpg but an unbelievable improvement in performance.

The 2004 2500HD is a real truck but quite civilized. If you are going to tow even a moderate size 5th wheel, that is what you want even if it is only a few times a year. I have an '02 2500HD Xcab with the 6.0 and 4.10 axles. It has monster size brakes compared to even the regular 2500, will pull a 9,000 lb skid loader effortlessly. MPG isn't bad for what it can do. The ride is extremely good.
