Help me pass smogvsiev 03-20-2004, 01:40 AM I have a 1991 MR2 turbo with a jdm gen 2 motor in it with a few mods and I was if I am able to pass smog with the jdm motor that I have. Because my California registration is coming up and I need to pass smog. Is there anything that I can do to make me pass smog with no problem? Please help me, I do not want to get a US engine and swap it in and out just to pass smog. TBeck2000 04-01-2004, 12:04 PM Since the JDM engine does not have EGR, you will have to swap heads with a US engine to pass. The JDM head does not accomodate the EGR hardware. That will probably be the first thing that they will notice. If you can get it past that hurdle, and you have good cats, I'm not sure if there is anything else stopping you from passing. Tim Beck '91 TD-06 Superwhite TBeck2000 04-01-2004, 12:27 PM I was referring to the visual portion of the smog test w/r/t EGR. If you don't pass visual, you don't even get to the actual emissions portion of the test. You could always try that stuff on the shelves that guarantees that you will pass (for the chemical analysis part of the test). No adding denatured alcohol to your fuel, changing engine oil, or whatever. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
