Question on H&R SpringsGideon5 03-19-2004, 06:04 PM Hi I'm new to this forum, I've looked back to a few threads and I couldnt find an answer to my question, I don't want to spend all day looking for one. Do you need a new set of shocks with a set of H&R Springs, could they just go with the stock shocks? I'm not looking for people telling me how dumb I am I just want a straight forward answer. Another question, what kind of shocks should I get if I get the H&R springs? Should I get a set of Tokico HP Springs and Shocks? tell me what you think, Thank you integrasedan 03-19-2004, 06:44 PM from my research, i'm going with H&R springs, or eibach. i'm plan on getting the H&R OEM like springs the .75 drop because i want better handling and not too low or Eibach 1.3 drop, if you get that, you can use the stock shocks. if you go lower than that, it's best to get new shocks, since the springs will wear out the stock ones. Gideon5 03-19-2004, 06:53 PM ok so if I wanted a 1.5 drop I would need a new set of shocks for the car? its a 98 civic lx, I just want the car to look good with a set of 17's on it. I don't want it to look jacked up like a few civics I've seen with 17's. They are Motegi FF5's. Heavy wheels too. integrasedan 03-19-2004, 07:29 PM since your car is five years old, i think your stock shocks should be able to handle the 1.5 drop since it's not too low, but eventually the shocks will wear out soon, maybe the ride won't be as smooth. you decide wheather you want new shocks or not. a new performance shock with new springs will make the car handle really well. a chain is only strong as it's weakest link. BullShifter 03-21-2004, 02:19 PM Yes 1.5" drop & 17" wheels will blow your stock along with very poor handling/ride. Gideon5 03-21-2004, 07:55 PM I'm going with the eibach pro kit, which is 1.3 in the front and 1.5 in the rear, will that rear shocks blow out? jajimo 03-22-2004, 01:09 AM JackassSI knows more about civics than I do so I won't argue with him, but I've been doing research on the H&R's for the Accord and I've heard of a lot of people using the Sport Springs with stock struts and not having any problems even after a year and several thousand miles. Surprisingly, I was going to go with the Eibach's but I've heard a lot better things about the H&R's, not to mention the fact that they are cheaper. If you don't replace your struts, just go ahead and ride around on them for a while. If you notice something is wrong, than go out and buy new ones. No point in replacing them if you don't have to, eh? BullShifter 03-23-2004, 11:51 PM Why take it apart & align it twice? Just do it right the first time. I've seen stock struts last many thousand miles & years on Honda's but the ride & handling is poor. The whole point to upgrading suspension is for better handling. I recommend H&R's over Eibach's any day. I'm going with the eibach pro kit, which is 1.3 in the front and 1.5 in the rear, will that rear shocks blow out? I recommend upgrading the struts any time a vehicle is lowered especially if there is more than 50K on stock struts or more than 1.5" of lowering being done. Your struts may blow out in 3 months or 3yrs but after some time of driving(each trip) the gases/fluides will boilover inside causing fade & possibly blowing seals making the strut(s) useless. Gideon5 03-24-2004, 01:16 AM ok thank you very much jackassSI I appreciate your help I'm going with you on this. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
