Project VERY STUCK X

A small group of X owners just returned from an outing that had 5 clubs represented. I watched as several trucks ran a 30 yard or so mud hole and decided to make a run for it. I made it to about 4-5 feet from the exit point when I slid into the ruts made by the other trucks and the run ended abruptly. Here is a photo of me digging Project X out enough so we could get it out. A beefed Toyota tried numerous times to pull me out and was unable to do so. They were getting ready to fire up the winch when the President of the Ocala Jeep Club decided to give it a go with his dual-locked Jeep. It took a couple of tries, but Project X finally came out.

Does that mean you have to take off the "Bite Me Jeep Boy" sticker?

CM,

Florida mud is VERY deceptive. A Toyota with 35 Swampers buried at the same point. The only trucks to make it through were the dual locked monster trucks with 38s. Believe it or not, I made it further than any of the lower trucks even though I was running an AT tire. Had my front locker been in place, I probably could have finished the run. My left front tire was still on hard pack.

Aussie,

No way, the Bite Me Jeep Boy sticker stays. Actually the Ocala Jeep Club got a kick out of it. They were amazed I made it as far as I did. Had my lift, Swampers and front locker been in place, it would have definitely been "Bite Me Jeep Boy". I can't wait until my new lift arrives! :D

Stormy,

Jeff R was with us all day. I will lay odds he will have some redneck jokes for you when he gets back home! :) I took him for a joy ride in Project X when we were at Eureka in Ocala. As for my being in NH, I will be there on the 20th of January, but Project X has to stay home thanks to a lift delay.

He's already started with the jokes... As for the 20th, maybe get together for a beer? How long are you staying for?

I've only had one or two jokes :D but nothing to brag about

Ah, Eureka...I couldn't remember what the name of that pit was (or many of the others, except Mondack). Project X is a sweet ride too

One great day of wheeling

O.K. I am confused now..

A) Why did you not have your locker engaged? That is why it is there right?

B) Why are you using AT's in an MT enviroment?

C) If only REALLY big trucks were making it though why did you even atempt to do it?

Please tell me it was not a schlong thing.

Can I make some wild guesses here?

A) Why did you not have your locker engaged? That is why it is there right?

He doesn't have a front locker yet. He said "if it was in place"

B) Why are you using AT's in an MT enviroment?

Maybe that's all he has? I've seen some amazing things done with just stock Long Trails. Tires are important, but skill rules over everything.

C) If only REALLY big trucks were making it though did you even atempt to do it?

Maybe he was first in line after them, and they only found out how hard it was afterwards? Besides, it is an Xterra, known to do all kinds of "impossible" things :D

Sounds good on the first one about the front locker :)

The second one about the tires is suspect. If you are not properly equipped for the enviroment in which you are driving it is like bring a knife to a gun fight

The third one will have to be confirmed by war.

It isn't in place yet. I am waiting on my new lift kit so I can replace the spindles and drop the diff and install the locker all at the same time.

B) Why are you using AT's in an MT enviroment?

Because I haven't put my Swamper setup together yet, still waiting on the lift.

C) If only REALLY big trucks were making it though why did you even atempt to do it?

Because I have b!@#$ of steel! :D Actually I guess I can ask you, why did you attempt that rock at Tellico with no skid plate? It was kind of the same thing for me. I felt like I could make it and damn near did. If there weren't people located in a position I wasn't comfortable with when I got to the exit point, I more than likely would have made it out. There was a left jog at the exit and since ATs don't steer so well in mud, I had to back out of the throttle to insure control in the mud. When I did, the truck slid into the bigger trucks ruts and that was all she wrote.

Please tell me it was not a schlong thing.

It was
:D

Well, I hate to speak for someone else, but when I saw the pit at first, I thought that it didn't look as bad as it turned out. I don't know for sure, but I think the fact that the Jeeps with the 38" tires went first prevented the smaller trucks from getting through. They made a deep enough trough that just about anyone who tired afterwards got beached (or would it be sunk? :p)

Warmonger is right, if he HAD a front locker installed, he would have gotten thorugh (and then I would have been foolish enough to try and gotten stuck).
I would have gone if I had a hope of getting through (no shot on stock grabbers :o )
