Speed QuestionsNicB. 03-18-2004, 01:11 PM I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon and was wondering if anyone knew what the stock 0-60 time is. This car also has ECT mode which makes it fast as shit (It's like there is no resistance in the gas pedal when you floor it). I'm kinda wondering the 0-60 time is if ECT mode was enabled. Any ideas? Secondly, I see a lot of ads for mod chips and such - as far as I know - a mod chip basically modifies the ECU to run differently. From what I hear, it would be nice to have a mod chip, but i am sure there are some downsides. What are they? Would my avalon be a good candidate for a mod chip? What is a reliable brand if this is the case? Thanks! NicB. kro$s 03-29-2004, 12:58 AM I have a 1996 Toyota Avalon and was wondering if anyone knew what the stock 0-60 time is. Well first off believe it or not the 1mz-fe engine that is in the Avalon will pull 0-60 in roughly 7.4-7.5 depending apon road conditions, engine condition, & gas octane in my exprience. Now I was blessed enough to have a 96 that pulled it in 7.2, and with ETC on pulled it in about 7.0-7.1, and with OD off i could mos def pull it in 7.0 most of the time  (btw - I killed that engine after about 175,000). If you want a slight boost get rid of that damn airbox that's in the Avalon, or at LEAST get a K&N filter, it wont do much in hp, but it will give it a slightly better sound and you'll never have to change it. Plus you can say that you have one too. :nono: If your talking about a performance chip for your tranny (or engine) then i have to tell you to not waste your money Toyotas ECU are alerady good. It will be just a waste of money for those chips for Avalon's. The only cars that it benifits are domestics and maybe forced induction cars. What they do basically is fool the computer to think its getting alot more air than it normally it should. This creates alot of problems. :banghead: The only company that actually reprograms ecus are TECH TOM Japan ( G-Force is their US sister company). But, it sad to say that because of the new OBDII ecus and chips used. They cannot flash or retrive the information from the ecu. It requires the code to pull the information from the chip. But the only company that has that information is Denso. And turst me they wont give up the information because they wouldnt want to soil their relationship with their number one custom ( Toyota ). I suggest just getting a Apexi S-AFC and have it tune properly. But, this way is just another band aid but its better than the JET CHIP. Good luck yotatechie04 05-04-2004, 10:37 PM All the "snap in" performance chips just make the ECM think that the car is getting less air, and causes the car to run full-rich. When this happens, you have slightly increased horsepower, although your gas mileage will suck ass. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
