95 Jetta Misfiring With Warm Temps MLSTRANDED 03-17-2004, 01:17 PM
Need Some Input. My Jetta Will Miss Fire In Warm Temps. At First This Problem Happened Only When Running The A/c, It Feels Like Having Water In The Distribitor Cap. I Have To Rev Eng. To Keep From Jurking/losing Pwr. It Feels Like It's Going To Stall But When I Let Up On The Gas It Will Idle Normal. Plugs, Wires, Dis. Cap Changed A Few Years Back When Trying To Tackle The Problem And No Help. Now It's Starting To Do It Without A/c Running But On Warm Days Or After Sitting In Traffic. One Other Thing That It Does Is At First Start, Rough Idle , But Once The Car Is Warm, Starts Fine.....any Ideas? boschmann 03-17-2004, 04:41 PM If it's misfiring, try spraying the ignition coil with water. It's a cheap, quick test. MLSTRANDED 03-19-2004, 10:46 PM Well, tried the water thing. I read where you advised someone to do that when they had trouble in wet conditions. I pulled a few fault codes one being 2231. I looked at the valve and ck'd with meter as called out in Bently Manual and seemed OK. Not sure if this valve would cause problem..... boschmann 03-21-2004, 01:36 PM Yes, the water trick is easy & since coils are so common to fail its a good first step. You may want to closely examine each plug wire & especially the coil wire & connections to the cap (& coil). They were common to deteriorate. It still sounds like a secondary ignition problem to me. Code 2231 can also be from vacuum leaks & EGR problems. How does the vacuum system look, particularly the larger hose coming off the valve cover that goes beside the timing cover & into the plastic pipe to the crankcase. I've seen every part of that system fail, grommet in the valve cover, valve itself, rubber hose, plastic pipe, & connection at the block. What were the other codes? MLSTRANDED 03-21-2004, 07:59 PM The other codes were 2111, 4412, 4413,... fuel injector faults, which I believe might be due to the original problem. I changed plugs, cap, rotor today...to see if it gets back to only happening during a/c operation. Wires are ok, I replaced them when problem started. Going to go over the vacumn system again and look where you suggested. I'll let you know. Thanks for the help........ boschmann 03-22-2004, 03:21 PM Were all four injector faults there or just those two? A quick check of the injector resistance may be worthwhile. Resistance should be 14-21.5 Ohms betwen the two terminals. You can also check between the ECM pins. All test between pin #23, Injector 1 is pin #24, 2 is #2, 3 is #25, 4 is #26. I've seen problems with the injector harness connector behind the head too, it's worth checking as it could be failing when hot. stereodetailing 03-23-2004, 02:01 PM what kind of engine dose this jetta have?? i new have a few thing to try!!! Were you able to resolve your issue, if so, what was it? I have replaced my rotor, distributor, wires, plugs and I didn't see any sparks when I sprayed my ignition coil. I would love any information you have. I really don't want to go back to the dealership again (It's getting expensive). Thanks, Jeff contra 08-16-2004, 10:44 PM Hey Mlstarnded did you find out what the problem was? jstbecauz 10-05-2004, 05:37 PM I have a similar problem as well. When at high rpm's there is a large stumble or hesitation. I replaced the coil and I am going to check for codes in the morning. What did some of you find that had this issue?
