At first i wanted a Mitsu 3000gt VR4 TT 300hp-320hp, i could afford the car ... but i called the insurance agency ... and that was another story, a $4k/per year one ... sigh. So now i'm out of the Vr4/3000zx/Rx7 class, simply because the insurance here in New Jersey is the most ridiculous thing i have heard in my 18 years of life. So i'm currently considering buying an eclipse. I hear they are easy/cheap to mod, is this true? How much hp will $2,000 get me?

depends on how you use it... and there's really no way to tell. but that will get you all the supporting mods and maybe a 14b turbo... which is a good start. worry about gettin the car first and payin the insurance. then see what you've got from there

Ideally, you will want to start with a GSX or Talon Tsi Awd. The GS-T can get you very far too, but the awd launches do wonders (as you probably know if you looked at vr4s). Gee...with $2000 you can do intake, exhaust, boost controller, ic piping, and possibly even have some funds for an upgraded turbo. I would say that, even if you are buying everything new, $3000 into a gsx will get you past a stock vr4 no problem. And if you buy used parts or have connections, doing labor yourself, $2000 will do the same thing. Search around on this forum, and take a look at the suggested mods and the times members have run, just acquaint yourself with the cars. I think you'll find that you can have a faster daily driver than any of the other three cars you mentioned, with a cheaper repair price, and the same type of sweet styling :naughty:

well these cars do handle mods extreamly well, and it all depends on what model you get, GS, GST,or GSX. Or if you Talon ESi, TSi, TSI AWD. The GS and the ESI both have the Chrysler bulit 420A neon engine in them, which is a very well desinged engine. The GST and TSI are in my opinion worthless cause you can spend a little more money and get twice the car with the GSX and TSIAWD. As for your two grand, its all in how you spend it. NOS will get you some horsies, a very worth while investment.

for $2000 in mods to each of these cars

RS/GS = 200 - 225hp and somewhere in the high 14's - low 15's in the 1/4 mile

GST/GSX = 300 - 325hp and somewhere in the high 12's - low 13's for the GSX and low 13's - mid 13's for the GST in the 1/4 mile

for all of these it all depends on what you do for mods! and how good of a driver you are for the 1/4 mile times! basically i am goin off of what i have seen of peoples mods and 1/4 mile times and what they say they have spent on there upgrades... just like 95_GSXRacer said, he spent 1800 and he was in the 12's with his GSX, ya just got to know what you are doing and how to make things work out right! the RS/GS hp is what i was at after i spent $2000 on my car, running 10psi of boost from a turbo kit i was at 224hp! again its all about how you spend your money! dont just go out and blow your money on a turbo and big ass intercooler cause you will never see much of an inprovement without the supporting mods! anyways good luck with getting the new car! make your choices wisely or you will regret it later!
