Fuel additives: How do you guys feel?? Joseph1082 03-15-2004, 10:33 PM
I'm sure someone probably asked this before, anyway How does everyone feel about fuel additives... injector/engine/fuel system cleaners? You guys have any commets on Marvel Mystery Oil or Lucas? How bout Redline wter wetter? Chevyracincamaro 03-15-2004, 10:37 PM i'll swear by the lucas oil stabalizer, if you've ever put that stuff in with an oil change than i dont see how you could not think it works... 89IROC&RS 03-15-2004, 11:23 PM well, i think lucas is the west coast, i live on the east coast, and its all BG stuff here. 67ratcamaro 03-16-2004, 08:24 AM For the most part don't waste your money on additives. Use a good synthetic oil, keep your fuel filter clean and maintain you cooling system. Some of the additives are great if you have a problem, watter wetter is incredible if you need it. just my 2 cents. midnight02 03-16-2004, 11:11 AM Well the Lucas products are sold here on the east coast. My store sells it and i have turned a few friends onto using it. And as far as a fuel system cleaner... i always use Castle Fireball. It keeps my car running awsome. And when i go to the drag strip i use Fireball Plus. It has a minor octane boost in it, and going 80 on the highway and then running my car at the track really cleans out the fuel system good. btw i drive an 02 LS Sport Cavalier with the 2.2L Ecotec. MarxZ/28 03-16-2004, 11:38 AM Well last summer my camaro had a sticky lifter, and i tried every kind of additive that promises to free it up/quiet it. Not one of them worked. Granted i was lookin for the easy/cheap fix, which usually never works...but not one kind had any effect on the lifter. I cant remember the names of the products, but i tried at least 4 different ones...i ended up putting all new lifters in, cause i figured if one was going, the rest would follow A product i would def. recommend to anyone would be High Tach oil stabilizer. It increases the oil pressure in both my car and my dads jeep, and also claims that it lubricates engine parts with friction to clear them up..resulting in longer engine life. I dont know about the latter, but i swear it does raise the oil pressure...it cost 6 bucks for a quart Chevyracincamaro 03-16-2004, 06:32 PM im in fairfax Va and from southern Va; we got lucas, i actually dont know anyone who does the bg stuff, then again i dont know everyone... none of the additives work the way they are supposed to, or the way they are advertised. however i think there are a few that do work and do help atleast a little. ive put the injector cleaner in and went around preaching that my car ran smoother, i use the lucas stuff, and ya know it prolly doesnt work but it helps to give me a little peace of mind thinking that im doing something that could be good for my car, cant go wrong with that... Joseph1082 03-17-2004, 12:23 AM I understand the phsycological effect, and peace of mind is always a good thing. I dont want to waste my money or gunk up my shit if i dont have to. I am in the habbit of using STP or some similar fuel injector cleaner when I change the oil... cant prove that it works, but cant say it doesnt, peace of mind. Nobody mentioned Marvel Mystery Oil... I have a few friends that swear by the stuff. It has been out since the 30s I think, so it must work, right? Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
