Got this truck a couple months ago, and it runs great. The check engine light came, but I do not think there is anything wrong with it. Are there some quirky things on the Ranger that would cause the light to come on, like the gas cap not on tight enough? Just trying to save $75 bucks on diagnostics.

I've never heard of anything quirky causing the light to come on. If you have an AutoZone parts store in your area they will read the codes for free. If not try to find some place that will or I believe there is a way to read them yourself with an analog ohmeter & a jumper wire. Either way you need to find out the code to see where the problem is because it could still run find but the computer will compensate for the problem, possibly effecting other parts. Good Luck!

Thanks for the Auto Zone tip. There is software I can get for my pocket pc to read the codes but it costs $200, mechanic is $75 in my area.
