Another 2002 SL2 thingtomwhite56 03-10-2004, 12:33 PM Another thing I'm experiencing is a squeal at idle speeds which generally goes away at higher RPMs. Of course sound travels so it's hard to tell the source but I tend to think it may be an idler bearing or a belt. Anyone else experience this? Tom streetracr32 03-10-2004, 02:30 PM you are probably right. its most likely a bearing, somewhere near the belt assy. or it could possibly be the water pump, or bearing. stbushmen 03-14-2004, 08:11 AM while the car is idling and you are hearing the squeal, pour water on the serpentine belt and see if that changes or eliminates the squeal. if it does then you have a bad belt. tomwhite56 03-14-2004, 12:57 PM while the car is idling and you are hearing the squeal, pour water on the serpentine belt and see if that changes or eliminates the squeal. if it does then you have a bad belt. OK. I had tried WD-40 and that hadn't helped--it sounds for all the world like a dry belt. But I'll try your suggestion. Thanks. Tom stbushmen 03-14-2004, 11:26 PM I think WD 40 isn't good for belts. might eat it. streetracr32 03-15-2004, 11:10 AM probably not, but it wont help too much R4V3N SP33D 03-19-2004, 10:38 AM I have an interesting issue with my 2002 SL2 that causes a funny noise. Mine lies in the brake system where the front drivers side brake squeals like rubber brakes on a bicycle tire when coming to a stop. The noise which used to be intermittant has now become a regular part of my vehicle's function. I have taken it to the dealership and they can't seem to hear it like I do. I have had my fiancee listen to it and he notices it too. The dealership has done maintenance on this issue where rotors were replaced and sanded on the visits and they report it to be in safe condition. I don't worry so much about safety as the performance of the brakes and the long term effects. Now to be completely fair it occurs mainly when it is cooler in the morning but there are those times where it will occur for the duration of the car ride and its pretty warm out (I live in Florida). So if there is anyone out there who has had similar problems or knows how to solve this one I would be really happy to hear about it. streetracr32 03-19-2004, 10:50 AM it should be the pads. they have an indicator that makes a squealing noise when the pads become too worn and need to be replaced. R4V3N SP33D 03-19-2004, 11:05 AM Pads have been replaced as well. I have taken it to two dealerships (still under warranty) and I continue to have the issue :( I mean these are the things we initially came up with too so I guess we're all on the same track with this one. I did overhear that with other GM vehicles this kind of noise had to do with the ABS system engaging??? streetracr32 03-24-2004, 11:42 AM No, it shouldnt be the ABS. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
