Wild Country TXRwqbang 04-30-2001, 04:54 PM Schlud and I had a brief coversation on this one. This fall I will be ditching my stock treads and purchasing a more agressive tire. I will be purchasing a 31" X10.50 X 15 or 32 x 11.50 x15 All-terrain type tire. Previously I had my mind set on the BFG AT/KO however, I have recently noticed the Wild Country TXR from Les Schwab. It looks as though it is a good trade off between an AT and an MT. I have already decided against a pure MT tire since I still want good on-road wet traction (Seattle) and good snow manners for ski trips. My question is, how does this tires performace compare to the BFG AT/KO on the road and off? Does anyone have any idea? I know that Mosi had a set, but has since moved to BFG 32" MT's. Thanks, Bryan Mosi 04-30-2001, 06:49 PM Hmmm... I would say that all around they are pretty good and half way descent in the mud. They aren't good in the ice though... I had my BFG MTs siped and they handle much better in the ice than the TXRs did. You would probably get a little more tread life out of the BFG ATs because the Wild Countries have a softer compound. Antitree_hugger 04-30-2001, 07:50 PM in a word they SUCK! ok a little more info, When brand new they work resonable well. After 20K miles they do not work so well, they still do ok in the dry stuff, but forget about mud. In snow (wet heavy sloppy snow) forget it. they suck big time. They did not wear very well at all, I have just over 20K miles on mine and have very little tread left on them (I *may* be able to squeeze 30K miles out of them) I think you would be a lot happier with the BFG AT/KO Ben Schludwiller 04-30-2001, 10:48 PM By the way. If you were considering LesSchuab for their service, you can also get the full line of Swampers there now. Maybe a set of TruXus tires in your future? Antitree_hugger 04-30-2001, 11:50 PM I stopped by Schuab's right after the weekend we went out. The TruXus are not in the system  Hopefully they will be in there soon (and in a 32" size) wqbang 05-01-2001, 09:35 AM I try to do as much of my vehicle maintenance by myself, however, I have heard excellent things about Les Schwabs service. As for the TruXus, how do they compare to the BFG MT as far as road noise? I assume they perform about the same in muddy conditions. I am thinking I will still end up with the BFG AT/KO's, as they were my first instinct, and have allways been a loyal BFG customer. wqbang 05-02-2001, 11:20 AM OK..... To further complicate things.... Here is another potential tire that might be suited for my use. http://www.procomptires.com/images/mttirechoice.gif Pro Comp Mud Terrain 31 X 10.50 Supposedly fairly quiet, fairly aggressive and siping. Whaddaya think? I need to talk to Russ Watson of SEXC. He has a set on his truck. Mosi 05-02-2001, 11:29 AM WQ... read the post on the Tire Comparison before you go with the Pro Comp... I had my BFG MTs siped in the center set of lugs and they work great! wqbang 06-12-2001, 11:18 AM OK, now I am throwing the Yoko Geolander AT II+ into the mix after seeing them in action of Carltons truck at Tellico. They seemed to have good traction, and conform well to rocks. Not only that but they are only $75 a a piece at tires.com They would probably suit my needs pretty well. Mobycat 06-12-2001, 11:29 AM Be aware of the sidewall issues - BFG are 3 ply, the pro-comps and Yokohama's are 2 ply, the Swampers are 6, I think? Not sure on the Les Schwab. Aren't those the uni-directional tires? You would need to carry around 2 spares ... wqbang 06-12-2001, 01:24 PM Originally posted by Philosopher Aren't those the uni-directional tires? You are correct ... so Carlton had the M/T's and ditched them for A/T's? I'll never understand that kid. wqbang 06-12-2001, 03:44 PM Originally posted by Philosopher Ah! Actually, I think he swapped them out for the road trip from Dallas -> Nashville -> Tellico -> Nashville -> Dallas. I believe he had the M/T spare on the roof still xterrabull 06-12-2001, 03:53 PM Anyone seen the new uni-directional Pro Comp MTs? I saw them in the recent 4WheelParts monthly magazine thingamajig. I swear they looked dead-on like the Geolander MTs; but it could be that the "directionality" of the two tires is their most distinct feature and so I just *think* they look the same (no side-by-side comparison) based on the overall impression the two tires made in mind. Damn that's just too analytical :D. ScottG 06-12-2001, 07:03 PM I have always preferred the BFG because of the 3 ply sidewall also. However, I have read that some of the new 2 ply tires (like Pro-Comp) use some sort of puncture resistant material. This could be bullshit, I don't know. I read somewhere that the trXus has a 2 ply sidewall, but those 2 plies are thicker than the BFG 3 ply. Matt Peckham 06-13-2001, 11:35 AM Suck. Mike from AC had them, they were the mildest looking Mud terrains I've seen. No sidewall anything, protection traction, whatever. You will note they are trying to give them away, buy 3 get 1 free. That's called a truckload sale. They can't move them. Go with the Trxus. For a good review on the Trxus, check this out (http://www.gis.net/~zacharer/trxusreview.html) I love mine. I may get a set for the Rover. they are only 97.00 a piece, practically nothing! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
