I have a 1991 318is coupe. When I go over pot holes/drains the rear end shuffles. It doesn't happen at a certain speed and I have no rattling which I'm told means the bushes are ok. Could the problem be the suspension?

Same problem here, except that mine's an '85. The back end is so jumpy on bumpy roads it's scary. Help, anyone?

Carinajane, if you're still there, I just learned from someone at Bavarian Auto that if the subframe bushings (where the rear subframe mounts to the car) wear out, the car will essentially steer from the rear on bumpy roads. The subframe bushing set is $129 from www.bavauto.com.

Hiya, thanks. I was hoping the 'Bush' word wouldn't be part of the equation as I have been told by a BMW dealer these are expensive to fix. But after looking at your price, I'm feeling better. I have to admit, the various mechanics I've described this to are all saying the same but are also saying BMW will charge alot as they use genuine parts. Copies are widely available. Looks like I'm gonna have to get something sorted - I'm feeling like a rally driver when I drive down bumpy roads! I will keep u informed. I'm off to buy some tyres £££ and try and find out what this idle problem is all about! C
