the belt that wraps around the power steering and alternator is about to tear. I bought the new one, but I can't find the tensioner. How do I get the new belt on? Pics would be nice.

I can post all that for 1996 if you're still interested.
What year are you dealing with miis.... ?

PS Always use year/model in new posts. It would help to add that info. to your user signature from your "User CP"

1996 Town Car,
Drive Belt Tensioner, Automatic, Removal and Installation
Note: Remove tensioner if suspected of defect, not necessary for simply changing the Serpentine Belt.

1} Remove Serpentine Drive Belt as outlined.

2} Remove RH ignition coil from drive belt tensioner and engine front cover as outlined in another section. Contact me for further details if required.

3} Remove drive belt tensioner retaining nut and bolts and drive belt tensioner from engine front cover.

4} To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten drive belt tensioner retaining nut and bolts to 20-30 N-m (15-22 lb-ft).

Drive Belt Replacement, Drive Belt, Serpentine

WARNING:
DO NOT ALLOW DRIVE BELT TENSIONER (6B209) TO SNAP BACK AS DAMAGE TO DRIVE BELT TENSIONER OR PERSONAL INJURY COULD RESULT.

Note:
Minor cracks in the V grooved portion of the drive belt (8620) are considered normal and acceptable. If the drive belt has chunks missing from the ribs, the drive belt should be replaced.

Conditions requiring drive belt replacement are rib chunk-out, severe glazing, frayed cords or other concerns. Replace any drive belt exhibiting one of these conditions.

Removal and Installation

1} Rotate drive belt tensioner away from drive belt with a breaker bar installed in the 0.5 inch square hole in drive belt tensioner arm.

2} Lift drive belt over generator pulley flange and remove.

3} Note: Make sure drive belt is properly installed on each pulley.

Note: When installing drive belt on pulleys, make sure that all grooves make proper contact with pulleys.

To install, position drive belt over pulleys. Make sure that all V grooves make proper contact with pulley as shown.

thanks. mine is actually a '90 and unfortunately, I changed the belt before I checked the forums. but it turned out to be REALLY easy. I don't think I have had an easier time ever changing a belt. I just loosened two bolts, lowered the alt a few inches, changed belts, and put everything back.

The method shown for the 1996 will also apply to all 1991-2002 Town Cars (1991-), Crown Victoria and Grand Marquises with the 4.6l engine.
