My climate control blower has quit working...well, most of the time. Every once in awhile it will come on. I took the blower out and it works every time when I put 12 VDC across it. I checked the blower fuse and it is okay. I doesn't matter if it is in Automatic or Manual. The climate control system still works, it is just the blower that does not. Any ideas would be much appreciated...Thanks.

Sounds like the rheostat is bad or dirty in the climate control unit.

Thanks for your response, Flewthecoupe. I have a couple questions:

1. Is the rheostat the same as the "SWITCH, A/C BLOWER MOTOR (RESISTOR)"? I couldn't find "rheostat" listed on any Ford parts online stores.

2. Where is the rheostat? If it is in the climate control system, how do I access it?

Thanks again.

Okay, rheostat is a little old school, sorry about that. A rheostat is basically a variable resistor. Let me browse my repair manual and see what I can dig up that may be the cause be it the switch itself or if there is something else inline that may be causing this. Let me ask this, when it does work, do you have variable speeds or is stuck on one speed?

Michael-

When it works, it works and when it doesn't, it doesn't. That is, if it works, it works in AUTO and manual and is not stuck on one speed, but when it doesn't work, it doesn't work at all. The control is a slide lever...all the way to the left it is in AUTO...as the lever is moved to the right it goes into manual with the highest speed being all the way to the right.

Thanks...John

Seaside, I have the exact same problem on my "new" 94 TBird LX. This was the first cold morning I needed the defroster and of course, the blower motor did not work. So I had to drive with the little "holes" through the frozen condensation. 5 minutes later, it comes on by itself!!! When it did come on, I had full contol of fan speed, air output selection etc. I started and stopped the car several times during the day and I noticed it took several seconds for the fan motor to turn on after the car started. I am stumped. Looks like I'll have to buy ANOTHER old car for the winter!!!

There is a connector that is behind the glove compartment (at least in 94-95) that goes bad a lot.

It could your actual control box that is screwed thats whats wrong with mine. These damn southern dirt roads will ruin a perfect car!

Same thing was going on with mine it would kick on whenever it felt like it and i would have full control. 2 days ago we get a snow storm and its like 10 below with wind chill and now it wont come on at all. I have to scrape the inside while im driving to see. i pulled the glove box and put a tester to it and 1 of the wires were hot. Im gonna pull the fan out tomorrow and put 12v to it and see if it comes on. If it does come on ill probably just hook it to a toggle switch unless i figure out what else it could be tonight.
