Hi G20 fans ...

Few days ago I noticed that my power steering is to soft. But only SOMETIMES. Sometimes when I'm driving around 60-70 mph the power steering becomes so soft that I could turn the steering wheel with just ONE finger.

If I know right the power steering should be progressive. So it becomes harder to turn if you driving at higher speed. But mine just won't. And this only happens at speeds from 50-75 mph.

Is my power steering damaged or what???

Thank's in advance

You might wanna check if you have enough power steering fluid or maybe too much fluid. But then again it could be all normal and its just all in your head hehe j/k :D

How come on our cars the power steering is so hard? My grandfather has a 94 buick, and he has the softest steering i have seen. some other cars do too. What does it have to do with?

I think a little hard steering on high speed is good. It feels more secure.
Did you ever drive a Civic? It is even harder.

On the "too soft steering" problem, first you want to check your tire pressure (especially front) to see if they are over-inflated ( when tires are cold of course )
If your tire pressure and fluid level are good, then I bet you will need a new rack and pinion, sounds like the steering is getting constantly over-assisted. Pressure valve in the steering rack stuck open.

OK, let's see...

* The too soft steering is not in my head
Yesterday I was driving about 110 mph and the power steering was still so soft like I mentioned.

My car needed drive terrain optic. Before the car went to drive terrain optic the power steering was never so soft. YES, the optic is right NOW. (The car was servised at Nissan dealer)

* The tire preassure is OK.
* There is enough power steering fluid.

The power steering in the G20 is 'engine speed' sensitive. It provides more assist as the engine speed increases. I guess it has something to do with the way the powersteering pump is working off the main crank. So yeah as you go faster the steering will get lighter, at 110mph I believe your probably pulling around 4500 to 5000 rpm with a 5-spd.

Yep!

My dealer said, that he will test my car today. He also said that power steering almost never gets destroyed or anything like it except in the car accident.
G-Forces you'r right the rpm at 110 mph is around 4500-5000 (exactly 5500 becouse my car has 90 hp and 1.6 liter engine).

And this one btw; my friend has a mercedes 300. He's like wicked on that cars. Few year ago he was employee at nissan service. He said to me that the car like is this nissan/infinity primera/g20 is undestroyable. That no european or american car can't compare with the engine like our cars have. His had 240.000 km and engine didn't drank a tear of oil.
