Oil where there shouldnt be oil???DaMoNe6969 03-03-2004, 05:50 PM Hey guys In light of my recent Idling problems, I decided to check the plugs and wires.. When i pulled the wire out, It was soaked in oil.. the plug was soaked in oil.. There was a lot of oil down there.. I didnt want to pull any plugs out because it'd all leak into the chamber.. Where would this oil be coming from?? I have about 2000km's on the rebuilt engine... Could it be a source of my idle surging??? projectsupramk3 03-03-2004, 06:35 PM Coming from the valve cover gaskets, that could be the cause of your idling problems, the oil could cause the plugs to arc onto the valve covers. Do not over torque the bolts on the covers because it will only make it worse, they should be torqued to 22ft lbs and the middle cover to only 13ft lbs. You can replace the phillips screws with hex or allen head bolts and they should stay tight longer and not have the possibility of stripping out. Just use a rag or a vaccume cleaner to get the oil out of there, then replace both valve cover gaskets and you should be set. DaMoNe6969 03-03-2004, 06:54 PM I'll give it a try.. Thanx once again DaMoNe6969 03-05-2004, 03:39 PM Ok, So i pulled some stuff off of the top of the engine, and checked the valve cover bolts.. They were hex bolts so they've been changed but I could turn them with my fingers... Can I just retorque them? Maybe use a little thread locker? What did you mean by the middle cover? projectsupramk3 03-05-2004, 04:20 PM I said you need new gaskets, if it's leaking and there are bolts in it then the gasket is bad. The cover in the middle is the 3rd valve cover, it's the black peice that keeps crap out of the valley in the head. You will have to take it off to get the oil out. So buy new valve cover gaskets, clean the mating surfaces, torque the bolts to 22ft lbs and your done, no more leaking. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
