Cheapest way to get a turbo MR2?Mjfan12 03-02-2004, 12:38 AM What's cheaper? buying an MR2-T outright, or getting an NA and doing a swap? It's really hard finding a good turbo for cheap. They're all going for 7500+ I don't have that much money. I could take out a loan, because I have 3 grand right now, and my civic could get me another 2 grand. So I'll need another 2500 from the bank. I'm 18 now. Can you get a loan for only 3000? JekylandHyde 03-02-2004, 08:59 AM Unless you are really expereinced with the MR2 (or have access to people who are), I would not recommend swapping the turbo engine into the NA. You can get loans for any amount of $$$. Mjfan12 03-02-2004, 06:36 PM why not? i keep seeing a lot of people do it, and i know of a shop around that does it. ghetto7o2azn 03-02-2004, 07:05 PM because it is more than just buying an engine sticking it in there and hooking up a few wires... plus it is expensive to swap if u get it done at a shop, and you would also have to find a good condition engine first JekylandHyde 03-02-2004, 09:14 PM 1. There isn't a person alive that will install a 3sgte into an NA MR2 with the same level of quality and preciseness that Toyota did when they assembled it in the Turbo MR2 model. 2. You run the risk of missing pieces. You can reduce this risk if you get a whole clip, but I have seen many clips come not 100% intact. 3. There are other "options" that come on a turbo MR2 beyond the engine ... some of those are also very desirable. 4. Yes, it can be done. Yes, many people have done it. I merely stated I would not recommend doing it (especially if you are inexperienced). rollhard 03-03-2004, 03:42 PM why not? i keep seeing a lot of people do it, and i know of a shop around that does it. DO NOT buy an NA and put a turbo engine in it. I promise you, that you will spend a lot more in the long run. And something that non experienced people do not know is that its not just getting the engine, harness, etc and installing it. There is so much crap that goes along with it. Its just like those kids who said they want to build their motor, and they just think of the prices of the pistons, rods, rings, whatever. They dont think about all the lines, gaskets, machining, etc. My advice, just bite the lip and pay extra for a turbo car. And make sure it is a well taken care of one. ghetto7o2azn 03-03-2004, 06:42 PM isnt it bite the bullet? rollhard 03-03-2004, 09:38 PM isnt it bite the bullet? bite your lip (dont talk anymore about na/turbo swap) thats what i meant, but yeah you are right bite the bullet = ) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
