1995 Passat VR6 Sedan Fuel Pump Rad0422 03-01-2004, 09:38 PM
My 1995 Passat's Fuel Pump started "whining" today. It is a high pitch noise clearly coming from the gas tank which can be heard pretty load inside the vehicle. I do have the factory service manual on CD for this car and do not anticipate any maintenance problems replacing the pump. I am wondering if the fuel pump for a 1997 Passat is the same as for a 1995? If anyone knows or has a parts list to check this for me, I would greatly appreciate a response. Thank you! karlos69 03-11-2004, 12:56 AM I just had my fuel pump (and sending unit) replaced on 1996 Passat. Cost about $600. It started making the same whining noise you are describing. I talked to a number of mechanics and some told me they could do it for less, but I was also told by a reputable mechanic that the combination fuel pump and sending unit will only fit into the housing in the fuel tank if they use the dealer bought unit ($380 or so). I did not want to risk it so went with the complete replacement. BTW - 142K miles on car for replacement. Have to drop fuel tank to replace. Also now having probs with secondary fuel tank pressure systems causing hard starting. Hope this helps Karlos69h Related Links Enter the largest automotive community on the planet! |
