Coil Packs

Hey I was just wondering what brand name coil packs everyone suggest. I can get several brand names and prices ranging from $20 to $50. I think I have one that has gone bad because my car seems to be missing some spark somewhere, either the spark plug wires, spark plugs or a coil pack and just wanted to know what others have found out about the coil packs. I am going to pick up some AC-Delco plugs & wires right now but thought I would hold out on the coils. Thanks in advance.

i doubt your coil packs are going bad, they should last a long time, replace the wires and plugs first that usually fixes it.

I just bought the plugs and wires, the only problem is I had to buy some OEM equivilant wires(They said I could exchange them for the AC-Delco wires, but they had to be ordered). It was going to take 3-5 days to get the AC-Delco wires in if I ordered those but they told me to give these wires a try and if no luck to bring em back for the other ones. The plugs are AC-Delco platinum series. Thanks for your input.

Replaced the wires and coils and I believe the problem is fixed but I haven't had a chance to really test it out. All of the plugs were in pretty bad shape and several of the wires weren't so pretty looking either. Definitely were the originals by the look of it and my car has 98,000 miles on it, so it was time. Hopefully the problem is resolved.

Unless someone hooked up the coils to an oscilloscope while under load, you can't really tell if they are bad without ruling out the plugs and/or wires. Bad wires with far too high resistance will make the exact same symptoms and even produce readings on an ohmmeter that would seem to indicate the coil packs are out of spec. That ohmmeter reading was the excuse my crooked-a** dealer (or maybe just incompetent, I dunno) tried to use to get me to replace all 4. My new mechanic explained the ins and out of why he didn't have to replace them for me. That was about 40k miles ago.

well dsatt, ive done the replacing plugs/wires also. While its not misfiring any more I can still see the rpms fluctuate just a little while cruising and also just a hair while idling. Should I replace all four??? How hard are they to replace?

how difficult is it to replace the 4 plugs on the backside of the engine?
