i looking into getting a t-bird/cougar and i wanted to know:

how much did you get your car for? and did you buy from dealer/private owner?
i wondering b/c i see dealers w/ 54k-92k V8's for less than 5k (houston, tx)

whats the 1/4 mile time for cougars/t-birds w/ 3.8/4.6 and 5.0?

any problems i should look out for? b/c i dont want to get the car and have it break down on me when i 3 ft infront of my house....

are insurance rates redulous?

thx for info

Normaly the T-bird/Cougar are pretty reliable cars.
If you are looking into a 3.8 check the head gaskets they were notorious for blowing My old 3.8 was an 18 second car stock if i remember correctly. My 4.6 on the other hand is around 15 to 16 not sure about the 4.6 really I haven't taken it to the track yet. And the 5.0 I am not sure about but I think it is pretty close to the 4.6

If you can find one, 87-88 and 91-93 had 5.0 options, or a 91-95 SC/XR7 would be good choice (but are harder to find these days). You definately want a 94 or newer 4.6 V8, 54-92K for them is nothing, mine has 155K with no engine problems ever, still has tons of torque... transmissions are another issue, you should have it checked out before buying. Quarter-mile times are slow stock, but the 4.6 has the most potential for modification, 3.8s are lacking. For the easiest mod, get a 96-97 4.6, same as the mustangs and many parts are interchangeable, 94-95 like mine are a little more quirky, but sturdy power plants none the less.

insurance is purely dependent on your driving history, point record, age, sex, location, etc. A V8 for a young male will always be expensive and any 2 dr coupe with a V8 is considered a "sports car" on most policies. I only pay $80 for both my birds, a 94 4.6 and a 65 390ci. (the classic "grandpa car" off sets the newer one), AND I've had speeding problems, lol. Just do some serious comparison shopping, one company will quote you $1200/yr, the next $800, go figure.

Just got a 96 LX and I love it . This modular 4.6L is a blast. I would
say get one. Unless you can score a 97 at the same price range.I
gave 3700 for mine as it was a puff. And the color was what I wanted.
I live in Houston also. Reason for yr. selection is the cool stuff the
computer gear you can to know just what the poop is with the engine.
