hello out there. new to this place. here's the scoop, when i try to start my 95 riviera the engine cranks (i believe that is the right term) but it wont start start. if i turn the key and hit the gas the engine turns on bur when i let go of the gas it dies. all the hoses seem to be secure the serpitine belt looks good. the gas is over 3/4 full it was working fine yesterday. but i think it was due for an oil change a couple of hundred miles ago. i would like to fix the problem myself seeing that i'm broke. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you.

I would Check the igntion system first. On our Riv's the Crank and Cam position senors tend go bad. I alreay replaced mine, i wouldn;t recomend you do it youyrself unless you have acces to a full automotive shop. Also you may want to try new spark plugs and wires, possibly even a throttle position sensor, and finally make sure you hve fuel pressure.

are you getting a check engine light, have you checked for codes, need to do that first to help narrow things down some, could be a lot of things, autozone will scan it for free and give you the codes
