I hear three warning bells every now and again in my 2001 740il which I just purchased. The dash display doesn't say anything is wrong and there is nothing on the monitor. It is not the outside temp one either. What is my car trying to tell me? My theories so far are top of the hour (it has happened twice when the clock was going from 59 to 00) or perhaps something to do with the navigation system? Thanks.

It probably is the top of the hour. My '93 740iL can alert you to the top of the hour. The '93 can be turned off via the Set/Reset button on the On Board Computer but the newer models have a different set-up for data entry and display. Look through your owner's manual in the section about setting the time and it should tell you how to turn this alarm off/on.

Buried deep in the settings part of the manual for the computer is the option "memo" on or off. Memo must be German for "ring bell three times just before top of the hour, but don't tell anyone." Thanks.

On the menu there is "set" which gets you into the menu. Turn off the "memo" and the chime will dissapear. Or is it the speed chime where you can set a chime to go off at a certain speed. I think with the set menu you can also change the color of the dispay.

my 750 does that as well, it beeps 3 times to notify you that the hour is coming to an end, so thats what it means. as for turning it off, look in the instructions for your radio booklet if u have one. however, my cars an '88 (back in the days of car theft) so im not sure if your radio would be considered ''part of the cars computer'' like mine...u can also look in index for time setting
