I have been having some electrical problems with my 96 taurus. With the key removed, the heater motor continues to run, killing the battery. Sometimes the interior light stays on. I think it is a problen with the ignition switch module but not sure. Any thoughts?

Does it have a remote start? If it does get it removed or checked. If not check to see if the heater wire is shorted to power somewhere.

I'm not sure if it is part of it or not, but have you checked the CCRM? It's the black box beside the battery. I had trouble with my cooling fans staying on and tapping this frees up the relays and stops the fans.

My opinion, check the ignition switch on your steering column. The switch could be bad, or it may have even come loose in it's mounting.

Once the key is out, the ignition switch should prevent any power from reaching the blower motor.

Can the key be removed in any position besides "Off" ? My '87 Taurus was that way; I had to be sure I had the thing in the Off position, or the battery would go dead. I could pull the key with the engine running.

I am not 100% on this, but i would guess a bad GEM Module. We have had quit a few of these on our F-150'S. The dome light stays on, and the warning chimes dont work as they should, or the blower motor will stay running, and the radio will stay on. Good luck. The f150 has a few of these modules to order from depending on the options on the car, like power windows, delay wipers, 4x4 or 4x2 etc, etc. Give the dealer all the info you can, and yes its a dealer only item. Good luck
