Alternator belt trouble 1998 taurusMrPieretti 02-20-2004, 01:28 PM Recently my alternator died on me which is a story in itself but I am currently taking off the alternator but I am not sure which of the bolts i losen to loosen the alternator belt. Someone have mercy. 02duratec 02-23-2004, 09:36 PM you have to pull back on the spring loaded tensioner this will release the tension on the belt so you can slip it off MrPieretti 02-23-2004, 10:45 PM Where is the spring loaded tensioner located. I can not find anything that looks spring loaded, everything i see is bolted to the block. 02duratec 02-25-2004, 02:34 PM it is an idler pulley which holds tension on the belt you need to pull on it using a socket or belt tensioner tool...I think you need a repair manual....I do not know or wish to offend you but be sure your not in over your head on this project vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
