Intake Gasket Repair

I need to replace the intake manifold gaskets on my 5.7L, (leaking antifreeze). I wanted to know if it is possible to remove the manifold with the injectors and throttle body intact, this way hopefully I can save some money and also not affect the way the truck runs. I realize that the valve covers will have to be removed, but my main concern is taking apart the fuel injection system.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks. By the way GREAT FORUM!!! :naughty:

Yep the whole works comes off in one piece, just unhook the cables, fuel& water lines, electronics etc. and eight bolts and its off.
Flip it over and you can see the injectors inside.

Almost forgot, mark the distributor position as it has to come out too.

Thanks herefordman, that's good to know, I also read in a Chilton Manual that I don't even have too remove the valve covers. Thanks again for the help.

No problem, but you do have to remove the valve covers, I tried it like that and it wouldn't come out past the inside edges.(I have the same book)
Also when you re-install it you have to be able to go straight down without disturbing the gasket goo on the front and rear which can't be done with the covers in place, have a good one.

my advise it to plug the intake ports with rags and cover the lifter valley with rags before scraping the old gasket off i've seen too many engines wrecked because of crap falling in the intake.

be sure to mark the distributor position very well before removing it. if it is not reinstall in the exact same position, you can set a crank/cam correlation code. you only have to remove one or the other valve covers, not both. I remove the left one because it seems to be easier to get off. also the valve cover gaskets are reuseable.
