I need more speed. IS elemanating the top speed limiter as simple as in my nissan. Locate and cut the speed sensor wire between the ECU and tranny or does the speed sensor wire run from the speeedo to ecu or ?. Any healp would be nice. 110 mph just ain't enough for me. Sorry if this post is f*cked up my Doc has got me on oxycontin for my lateerst back injury. Thanks I'm going tyo pass go pass out now.

i believe it's a built in function in the ECU. the only way to get rid of it is to get a chip reburn.

http://www.Truckperformance.com has a chip that should accomplish what you are looking for that is where i plan on getting my chip from.

My stepmom has a 4.6L and I couldnt even get it to 110 by the time the CHP started creeping, lol. these birds are costly to get moving with their weird engine platforms, esp. my '86 3.8L V6 BLAH

Must be nice. Both my 96, my aunt's 96, and my friends 97 shut off at 103....

Give me a few weeks and I willl sort out an easier and cheaper way than burning the ecu or purchasing a chip, to elemanate the top speed limiter. (Hopefully???)
I will post a "how to" when I figure it out.
Any body out there know of an online source for an ECU wireing diagram.

P.S. my car has 17in rims and some 50 series tire on it, thus my speedo is probably giving an inaccurate reading.

it is, because the cutoff is 103, as thunderin' mentioned.

All the 'Birds with electroninc transmissions (~'93 up) will need a CHIP or the trans will NOT shift unless you install a manual valve body.

If you want a REALLY good chip that will REALLY add power and improve how the car runs, there is only ONE fella in the world that can do it right. Contact SuperChips Custom Tuning for his EEC magic.

I've been modding Ford modular enignes since 1998, this guy KNOWS HIS STUFF, and has proven it to thousand of people. He does DYNO tuning like no one else can.

You can also check out www.tccoa.com for additional MN12 (T-Bird and Mark VIII) info.

try a sooped up stage chip. Don't know if it will be legal once you get finished with it but it may work. Also....take your govner off. You could put on a new intake system or a ram air hood scoop and intake.

How do you make a ram air intake to use with a ram air hood

I have a ram air hood it just isnt hooked up to the intake.

94-97 are electonic. 93 is still aod.

Super coupes have a completly different electronics set up. My 95 LX with a 4.6 starts cutting injectors off at 103 mph

Where is the gov at or is it in the computer.

The "govornor" is really a torque limiting alogrithym in the EEC. The ONLY way around it, is to change it by a chip (EEC-IV) or relfashing the EEC (EEC-V).

How do you reflash? I should know this but I it seems that not many people seem to know exactly how without messing other things. What chip do you suggest ModMech?

I have cut the speed sensor wire ,which is at the rear of the tranny. and put an on/off switch betweeen the speed sensor and th ECU. In the off position , tells the car I"m going 0mph aat 5,?00 rpm's, at 0 mph, there for elimanating the factory speedo.

Who cares how fast you are going so long as you don't even know exactly how fast you't going. Fu*k the police, 17 traffic violations, 0 accadents. fu*k"em

Before 94 there is no rev limiter on the T-birds. So you can go as fast as they can go.

Hold on a second.Shouldnt you first upgrade to a better driveshaft before you start outr unning the police? The limiter is in there for a reason right?

i got a phone call last night that my dad had hurt his new hip out at my cottage which happens to be on an island,i had to drive 30 miles in the pouring rain to go get him i never lifted off the go pedal the hole way there,in any other car would have flew right off the roadbut the bird suck to the road like it was on rails!! i had to carry my dad on my back into my boat and come 2 miles across the lake in the rain then i put him in the thunderbird and then i drove back to town same thing! i love my car! my dad kept saying how fast are we going?I said i can go faster if you need me too and i could have! Now thats why i own this car!!!!

Did the samew thing, cut the speed sensor wire between the rear of the tranny and the ECU and installed an on off switch. Works great.
