OK, i was just curious to why people have spoilers on cars. Im not talking stock spoilers. Im talking aftermarket spoilers on cars. Perticularly large aluminum wings, or larger wings.

Do you put it on for apperance, or do you beleave that it does something?

they do it because they think they need downforce on their rear end, when they car is front wheel drive....... :eek7:

I know that OEM sopilers add some stability. But i do not see any purpose for the larger ones. Even at speed, they may add downforce to the rear of the car, but this is not a good thing with FWD. It takes away from the ability to put the power to the ground. To me this seems like a bad idea.

and as for people with the large wings...
i dont really know why anybody would add those...
wings does do some good even for FF cars...

thats why if u see some races with cars such as... Integra, Civic, RSX, they all have some form of spoiler or wing.

Yes OEM spoilers surve a function. The reduce thw ind vortec behind the car increasing gas millage, as well as adding a little dowunforce to the car. Which can improve stability.

A prime example would be on the new beetle. In europe when it came out the car was having high speed problems. It would actualy act like a wing and lift off the ground. So to solve this VW added a simple but effective lip on the hatch. It solved this problem.

So as for OEM spoilers having a function, yes they do.

Integra Type R wings are just for looks, the actualy make the car less stable at speed, buit that aids in manuverability of the car. The wings you see on race cars are usualy OEM spoilers, or tuned to aid in stability.

i never knew that oem spoilers actually helped in any way...
but if anybody wants a truely functional kit for their honda/acura you can just get kits from big and expensive companies... say... Mugen... wind tunnel tested, reduces drag, increases downforce and helps gas but then again its not just the wing... you have to get the whole kit $$$$$$$$

Its people that do what you just did that start the flaming. So far we have had a fairly good conversation about spoilers. There a problem with that. I dont beleave there is.

I believe you should search for one of the other billion posts on this same gay topic before starting your own.

And i beleave that you should stop wasting server space, because i have already done a search and did not find information that i wanted. I found lots of flaming but not one that discussed the actualy reason, dissadvantages, and advantages of adding an aftermarket spoiler.

The only advantage to adding a spoiler on a Civic is you get props from highschool freshmen.

No its not the only advantage. Thats my point. Already you are starting to say the things that start flame wars.

With an aftermarket spoiler, sucah as a simple Wings West spoiler (nothing really high, or aluminum) will help to increase fule millage and help wiht aerodynamics (fuel millage and aerodynamics are related). As well as help high speed stability.

Go install your spoiler then let me know about the 4¢ in gas you save every fillup along with all the "high-speed stability" it improves on. Then tell me about all the people who call you a ricer and let me know if it was worth it kthx.

I dont have a Civic nor do i want one. I prefer cars without spoilers, or relitlvly small stock looking units. But i do find it odd that you post about all these threads turning into flame wars, yet you are trying to flame right here.

4cents saved is better than none. And if you are doing alot of highway driving you can feel the added stability, although the added drag will lower your top speed but that is not really that important.

In a Boxter or Audi TT you can feel the difference when the stock spoiler erects, but that's because the car was engineered for it from the factory. Adding some heavy pos on the trunk of some non-performance car will just screw it up, adding downforce where not needed. FWD cars understeer, it's just a fact of life. Why take away more traction? That's my argument. Only ricers and wannabe's add "performance" spoilers to Civics and similar FWD cars.

A Boxer was not designed to use a spoiler fromt he factory. The Boxter S was modified for the spoiler to rase out of the trunk to increase the downforce. Like i said the addition of a spoiler to a FWD car will add stability, aerodynamics, and fuel millage.

Well i think you may need to take a look around. This question was asked in a Honda/Acura forum, not a Civic forum. There is a difference.

You really must read the hole thread before you post. I never asked if they surved a purpose. I asked why people choose to put them on there cars. If it was for a pearly asthetic addition or to surve a purpose.

This question is not gay, its asking for peoples reasoning behind having a spoiler on there car, it was not asking for your opinion on weather or not it was a practical addition to a car. Or if it effected the car in anyway. Read the first post of the thread.

Just to let you know the BMW is a custom turbo set up. 450whp out of a 2.0 liter 4 cylinder, and the car looks stock. I know you will ask me to post pics of the engine so i will try yo take some today, just for you :D

Well thats ok, the datsun is a little rough looking there, but right now she is all polished, no front bumper and looks pretty sweet. As for the BMW and Prelude looking like junk yard cars, Well wishi i lived where you do cause you have some pretty nice junkyards, i mean 82 BMW's with 450whp. Hummm thats nice.
