buying a 1990 4runner what should i look for?madmaniac 02-17-2004, 02:06 PM its a 90' 4runner 113k miles auto trans. with A/C $3800 v6 which looks very clean. i called toyota and it hasnt had the head gasket recall done yet. it has however had the A/C recall done back in 93. the truck is overall very clean and seemed to run fine. the truck is very tight(no rattles or loose feel) the underneath looks pretty rusted though which is a slight concern. no holes or anything that i see. 4wd and tranny both run smooth and shift when they are supposed to. the inside of the front tires have more wear and the vehicle has a slight pull to the right which also concerns me. what could that be? anything serious? the rear windows and rear windshield have tired motors. are they expensive to fix? the body is pretty good but a minor dent in the rear bumper. this little package is going for $3800. think its a good deal? anything else is should look for? C-DUBYA 02-17-2004, 06:33 PM Sounds like a pretty good deal although rust will get bad real fast. The rear window is very expensive to fix unless you have it done yourself. Otherwise i recommend spending the 60 clams and having it checked in a shop. madmaniac 02-18-2004, 09:21 AM is there any way to combat rust? this is my 1st "old" 4x4. dickman 02-18-2004, 11:00 PM That is not too bad a price for the vehicle. When I bought mine years ago I waited until late spring and then power washed the under carriage followed by some heavy duty wire brushing and then used that stuff that you can buy in body shop supply shops that is a type of gel used to paint with a brush over rust. I did the entire under carriage with this and then used a rustoleum primar and eventually rustoleum black paint. The vehicle had 40k miles, 8 years ago when I bought it and never had it's head gasket replaced either. It has about 125k now and still I have not had the gasket problem, knock on wood. The window motors may not really be tired. I've found that a little vaseline applied with your finger in the window channels works wonders for making them go up and down smoothly. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
