Need maintenance info on xj8

I am looking at a 1998 xj8. Thinking of purchasing it. The issue I was wondering about is the regular maintenance. Oil changes on my xj6 needed to be done at the dealership or so they told me, because it was so very hard to do. Those oil changes always cost me around $200 every time, along with other lofty expenses for other small type items. Are these costs still there on this v8 version for the 1998? What other items should I look out for on the 1998? Is there another year or engine type that was bullit proof? Another way of asking would be, what year Jag had the least go wrong with it in the xj 6 or 8? Any help here will save me big money in the future.
PS I actually like to do the routine maintenance items myself if I can. I always have on my German and American vehicles! Thank-you in advance for your help and have a great day!!!!! Ron

1995-1997 Jaguar XJ6s are reliable, but check the head gaskets for leaks.

2001-2003 XJ8s have better timing chain tensioners, more features, and other stuff than 98-01 XJ8s.
