How much time can i expect to shave off my 60' w/ a torque arm and line lock?2000LS1Z28 02-15-2004, 01:34 AM Hey guys, I decided to keep the Z28 (It's almost paid off, and all the Supras in my area are going for over $20K, even with 100K miles on them). In any event, I just bought a torque arm and line lock for my car. I've had nothing but bad luck squirting off the line, even with drag radials. My main problem is having the space to heat the tires up. I'm somewhat fearful of running over the track stagers by applying the brake and the gas, so i bought line lock to control the uncontrollable :p I also bought Edelbrock's torque arm for my car. Below I will list the mods on my car. I typically drive at Speedway (Not the best for traction), and my best there is a 2.3 sec. 60' (I know, I suck). How much time can I shave with the tires properly heated? Below is a list of the mods on my car (Hopefully i don't forget any of the mods): 2000 Z28 (Yes guys, it is an LS1). Z06 intake manifold, Z06 clutch/flywheel, MAFT, underhood ram air, whisper lid, magnaflow muffler, exhaust cutout (Can't be used in conjunction w/ muffler), MSD wires, iridium plugs, Edelbrock 100 dry shot, HPP3, Pro 5.0 shifter w/ short handle, panhard rod, and nitto drag radials (Plus the new toys). Ok, seriously man, I don't know what the problem is, lol. You should be running low 12s and pulling 2.0 60s. Keep going to the track until you achieve that, haha. j/k man. But seriously, just get back out there asap and try again. GTStang 02-15-2004, 03:26 AM You have the nitrous armed right at the stage light.... cause you have to remember a stock nitrous kit like Edelbrock engages only at WOT. So you might be starting to grab and be ok and then go WOT and giving it an extra 100HP shot and breaking lose agian. I need to know a more detailed idea of ya launches there. Also heating is important with DR's but no where a much as slicks. You really need to be in flat 2's to 1.8's in 60 foots with DR's. 2000LS1Z28 02-15-2004, 04:31 PM Well I think part of the problem is honestly the track. They laid down 150' of concrete about 6 months ago. Of those 6 months only 3 of the months was it open to the public. The car basically either spins, or bogs too much when I launch. I'm positive that a nice smoky burnout could cure part of the traction problem. I'll probably know within this month's frame whether i have cured my car's traction woes. Currently the car traps at 113 mph, and that is at 1260' elevation. I'd say mid 12's it should do if i can pull off A 2.0 sec. 60'. These cars aren't exactly easy to launch. In any event I am hoping to atleast shave off 2 tenths of a sec. in my 1/4 mile. I might also try to rerace that Supra MKIV again (He is about as traction limited as I am, but he has more horsepower- about 450rwhp). -Josh- 02-15-2004, 09:17 PM Try getting Trans Brake. -The Stig- 02-15-2004, 09:33 PM Try getting Trans Brake. Would be hard considering he's got a 6 speed and not an automatic. 2000 Z28 (Yes guys, it is an LS1). All signs point to 6 speed. :p danno_SS 02-16-2004, 07:01 AM Well I think part of the problem is honestly the track. They laid down 150' of concrete about 6 months ago. Good to hear you decided to keep the car. I don't know if it is the cold asphalt (40-50ish by 9PM there) or if the concrete pad extension fucked up the track. But over the summer I didn't have any problems getting 2.2x's. The best 60' I've managed over the winter is a 2.421. That track sucks!! You're better off going to Carlsbad. RE: traction, subframe connectors seem to help the wheel hop problem and you should be getting 2.0s with the DRs there. Hypsi87 02-16-2004, 04:11 PM your going to shuck your rearend trying to run stiky tires and a six speed. 10 bolts with a 7.5 inch ring gear+stiky tires do not mix. 2000LS1Z28 02-16-2004, 04:50 PM your going to shuck your rearend trying to run stiky tires and a six speed. 10 bolts with a 7.5 inch ring gear+stiky tires do not mix. i'm using drag radials, not slicks. Plus I doubt that me getting a 2.0 sec. 60' is gonna break anything LOL. Nice GN BTW. Self 02-16-2004, 07:08 PM i'm using drag radials, not slicks. Plus I doubt that me getting a 2.0 sec. 60' is gonna break anything LOL. Nice GN BTW. Yea, I'm sure you'll be fine. Just on DRs like you said. Even slicks would PROBABLY be alright if you're not putting out too awfully much power over stock. But if you run them and blow your rearend all over the pavement it won't be my fault:biggrin: 2000LS1Z28 02-16-2004, 07:32 PM I am typically really pessimistic about my dyno numbers, so i'd say that my car has about 370 rwhp. That really isn't all that much. Hypsi87 02-16-2004, 11:39 PM i'm using drag radials, not slicks. Plus I doubt that me getting a 2.0 sec. 60' is gonna break anything LOL. Nice GN BTW. Thanks for the complemant. Anyway. The 10 bolt is not known for it's strength. Well at least the 7.5 inch ring gear. 370whp on a stick car is more than enough to slaughter that rearend I think you will be suprised when you accually get to heat the DR up. There are pleanty of GNs that have the same power output as you who '60 2.0 or better on a Pair of hot DR's. Hell My car does when I run my DR's and I don't even have posi. I'm not trying to be an ass here. Ive just seen too many camaros blow the assend out of the car at the strip. There was a post about this in the camaro forums. You should check it out. No, you're right! I completely forgot he was running nitrous on his car. And I didn't mean any disrespect to you, 2000LS1 with my last post when I said "you're not putting out too awfully much power over stock", LOL. I honestly forgot you were running nitrous on your car! 370rwhp is VERY impressive! And like he said, enough to crush a crappy 10bolt with slicks:mad:. But I think you'll be alright with DRs. Track prep has A LOT to do with it, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could cut a 2.0 60' with decent pavement under your tires. 2000LS1Z28 02-17-2004, 03:18 AM Track prep has A LOT to do with it, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could cut a 2.0 60' with decent pavement under your tires. Self you'd probably flip over how miserable the track is at Speedway. I know a guy with slicks that has pulled a 1.7 sec. 60' in his modified GTP, and last i remember his run at Speedway he ran a 2.3 sec. 60'. LOL The track stinks, but I can pull out better 1/4 mile times at it then LACr (primarily cause LACR has a D/A of 4-5K ft.). Heck i saw a guy in an STi that only cut a 2.0 sec. 60'. Chevyracincamaro 02-17-2004, 05:19 PM head out on the net and get some suspension upgrades and stiffen up that rear-end. if all you got is the panhard rod and the torque arm then you have loads of parts you can get to help plant the rear-end. plus if your either bogging down or spinning wheels check your launch rpm. dont know where you are in schooling but do your physics homework and figure out what rpms the engine should be at when you launch... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
