can i get a 302 in a 91 ranger 4x4

i was wondering if it is possible to put a 302 in a 91 ranger 4x4, and if so what kind of tranny would i need to get?

I've seen lots of rangers with 302's. I believe they use a C-4 tranny. Advance Adapters has the stuff you need for a V-8 swap. I think www.therangerstation.com has helpful info and knowlegable staff to help you with this. Good luck with the swap. What kind of motor do you have in it now?

yeah, therangerstation will set you straight, but you may want to get a hold on your wallet, and emotions---it will be very rewarding when it is done, but it may take some time, ie 70 hours...and patience, but from what i've heard, the 302 is the best way to go for a v8 swap... oh, you may want to get a 2" body lift if you go the v8 way- i usually avoid body lifts, but it makes the work easier and faster, and helps avoid problems/conflicts later down the road, in general, but is not by any means necessary

Unfortunately I have a 3" body lift, cuz I'm too damn cheap to go with a suspension lift. My 2.9 ain't bad, but a 302 under the hood would be the ticket. Someday. Anyhow, a body lift would help, especially when it comes to the bellhousing clearance. replaced the clutch once before the body lift, and needless to say there wasn't a whole lot of clearance. :banghead: Good Luck

Oh by the way, If you do decide to go with a body lift, Performance Accesories didn't have bumper brackets for my 92, so you might want to try Trailmaster. I had to fabricate my own

i wish i had a body lift on my truck now, i blew the tranny a couple weeks ago and it's been hell trying to get the old one out. what do u think is the better way to go with a 302. Carb or injected?

if you've got the time and the money, i've heard that an EFI is really nice--but there are some issues that need to be taken care of, like wiring harness, computer, etc - but if you dont, carb is a lot easier to install, but harder to find with low miles, unless you can get lucky or get a crate engine. A carbed 302 will give you alot of aftermarket parts, that will probably be cheaper than if on an EFI.
