Just wondering if someone could tell me the approximate cost and how much work it would be to put a chip in my car so it doesn't die after 100mph. I'm getting sick of my buddies' little 4 bangers scooting by me at top end speed. I would appreciate any info.

Obey the speed limits and you wont have to worry about it!

I don't know about 100 MPh...I thought it was 140. Either that or someone already removed it because when I first bought my car, I did ONE test with it on an empty country road and I was able to take it up to 130 without any problem. My tires were rated for this speed. However, I doubt that yours are. It is very dagerous for you to take average tires up to that speed. If you don't have a blowout, you can mess up your balancing and get strange leaks and all sorts of problems.

I just got the car myself about a week and a half ago, so I had to get on it a little bit, but both times it died at 110. I thought that was kind of odd for a v-8 but I don't plan on doing that too often. It just would be nice to have a little more top end speed. However, thanks for the reply.

Some Aurora's came with an autobahn package with a speed limit of 135-140mph before it cuts out.
Sounds like you have non-autobahn.

Under the lid that covers the micro spare there is a series of build codes. The standard Aurora had a QQW the Autobahn Aurora had a QQX build code.

Also on the driverside door Autobahn would say it had V Rated tires

I have a quick question for ya, you seem to know quite a bit about your Aurora. My passenger and rear windows won't roll down all of a sudden, and I don't have the window lock on or anything. Checked pretty much everything, also, the fan won't come on on manual right away like it did before. I have to drive for a while before it decides to work. Any ideas?

This same situation occured to an owner in a previous thread and I believe there is a relay that controls the other doors functions separate from the drivers. A new relay cured the problem.

i read in a magazine that the autobahn aurora cuts out at 142.5mph

I thought it was fuel shutdown at 6400 RPM, not a MPH limiter? My struts are not good enough for any top end passes, but my car shows 6100 RPM@105 MPH in 3rd gear.

That could be it... but in overdrive, at 125MPH mine was only in the 3000-3500 range. However, I also read that the Autobahns have a 'higher' speed limit of 140 mph. Apparently the tranny is geared differently as well. Here is a quote of the features of the Autobahn package. "140 mph limiter, v-rated tires and the STS gearing 3.71:1". I also read that the package comes with crome wheels. (I love them :)

vikessuck, when your Aurora dies, what is the RPM at?

The autobahn option doesn't include chrome wheels - I wish it did, I think they look great.

I think that was only '95. My '98 Autobahn has chromies...

Mine's a 98 too, and I think the only options it doesn't have are the chrome wheels, the cellphone and the bose.

In the 96 FSM the final drive ratio (3.71) for the autobahn will have a production code of FV4 with tire code of QQX for v rated tires. Mine doesnt have chrome wheels or the bose system but it is an autobahn 96 with the FV4 and QQX build.

Smart Group ;)

This Autobahn package didn't include the chomed alloy rim option but it did include V-rated tires and a gearing of 3.71 found on the STS.

Non Autobahn equipped Auroras are governed at 108 mph. V-rated tires are rated for 139mph, so the governor must take over at about 135-140 mph.

Am I ever glad I found this forum

I have a 1995 Aurora. Since a year ago it engine started mis-firing, as if one or 2 cylinders were not functioning. I had all spark plugs and wires changed (AC Delco) but it's still not running smooth, had 1 coil changed, made it better but still not perfect as before. Is there anything else I can do? a mechanic told me it could be from the sensor that adjusts fuel release and spark as we accelerate (forgot the name of part). Anyone has a suggestion?

Why would you only change ONE coil?????????????
If ONE coil made it better. MAYBE, JUST MAYBE....................
