Hoping someone out there can tell me what mileage I should expect from my 1997 Elantra I just bought. I drive 80 mi round trip for work. I got rid of an 89 Honda Civic that was getting 36mpg. I expected at least 32 but the first two times I checked I am only getting 29 mpg. A back problem forced me to go from stick to Auto and it was a super deal but now I am wondering. If this is normal .... is there anything I can do to improve mileage? Thanks for any suggestions..... :)

Its funny I checked ours today after a long highway drive. 47mpg/canadian---38mpg/u.s.

I posted a 3 month avg fuel economy snapshot. This is for an 04 Elantra GT averaging 78.8 miles per day @ ~80-85mph.

Your expected milleage will be 20 miles at City and
23 miles at route if it is A/T. manual increases 10 %.
Not more, remember it has 130 HP.
You are Wrong with your estimation.
