torsion bar liftbugs2278 12-30-2001, 11:02 PM i know torsion bars will lift the front but will this also lift the back DeFibVT 12-30-2001, 11:05 PM no Goliath the X 12-30-2001, 11:40 PM Ask a yes/no question and get a yes/no answer.:D you would need AALs, Shackles or a new spring pack to lift the back. DeFibVT 12-30-2001, 11:44 PM Decided to get to the point rather than fill up space with rheoteric. Goliath the X 12-31-2001, 12:53 AM I don't blame you DeFib. I usually go right to the point when such a basic question is asked, but for some reason I was feeling nice tonight. DeFibVT 12-31-2001, 12:59 AM So often nowadays people see a one word answer and they think the person is being mean. Shoot, I was just answering the question. I am sure I could have gone into detail more but I dont have all the details when it comes to AAL's or shackles so I answered with what I knew and bugged out. :smoker2: bugs2278 12-31-2001, 12:26 PM no need making a big deal out of it the answer yes or no whas waht i was asking for no big trick thanks:D bugs2278 12-31-2001, 08:26 PM thanks guys for all the help but waht would be the best way for me to determine whats wrong with it as i said the right rear sits 1 inch lower than the left also the right front sits a 1/4 inch lower than the left but thats no big deal but back looks funny please help im going to try and fix it myself since the warranty is gone i have powertrain left but i dont think it would cover suspension thanks :( Schludwiller 12-31-2001, 08:38 PM If it was me I would try to narrow down the possibilities. First, fix the front end by adjusting your torsion bars until the frame is even up front. Then take measurements in the rear comparing the driver and passenger side. Maybe check the distance between the axle and the bumpstops. You could have a bad shock, or a leaf might be worn out. Checking comparable measurements between both sides might help you narrow it down. You might also try switching the rear shocks with each other and see if the truck leans the other way. That would help eliminate them as a possibility without buying new ones. Maybe check the distance between the leaf shackle and the ground on both sides to see if one is wearing prematurely. Good luck. bugs2278 12-31-2001, 09:56 PM hey thanks alot thats some great info i never thought a shock could affect the height also dont think im totally stupid but where is the shackle located and whats the best way to remove and put shocks on thanks sorry for all the ?'s im not totally stupid im just fairly new to the 4wd scene im really a great engine mechanic so i think can do the stuff myself thanks again for the help:) Schludwiller 12-31-2001, 11:08 PM Here's a picture of the shackle. (the hammer is about to hit it, just to the left of the exhaust pipe). Use the same measuring point on both sides. http://www.xterra4x4.com/mods/Owners/shackles/hammer.jpg If the leafs are holding the truck up the same height on both sides, then try switching the shocks. Each end is held on by a bolt, just loosen the nuts and pull the shocks off. Just make sure you note how the metal caps on the bushings are mounted so you can put them back correctly. Since they're Nissan shocks they should compress pretty easily if you need to do so to remove them. You'll need to bounce the truck, or better yet, drive it around a bit to get the shocks to resettle. Then see if the truck is tilting the other way. I'm not sure if either is your problem, but checking both the leafs and the shocks can be done yourself before you start having someone charge you to find what's wrong. You might not HAVE to, but you'll know if the truck starts pulling to one side or you get uneven tire wear. Around my neighborhood you can get an alignment for $40-50. Once you get all your tilting problems worked out it might not be a bad idea to get it done. XMan9 01-03-2002, 12:21 AM Originally posted by bugs2278 thanks sorry for all the ?'s im not totally stupid im just fairly new to the 4wd scene HEY, anybody with a name like "bugs" is a buddy of mine. no question is a stupid question on this forum, right boys? you just might get flamed a little... :p you guys playin' cards? Travii 08-27-2002, 10:55 PM With a 1 1/4" torsion adjustment I am finding that I am pushing the 1/2" bump stop/a-arm margin. I am curious where it is important to have the 1/2 - 3/4" spacing that I always hear about. Is it for the sake of wheel travel while off roading, or are there concerns on the highway also? I do plan on replacing the A-arms, but don't have the $ yet. Just curiuos what/when/how to be concerned if to be at all. Anyone? Schludwiller 08-28-2002, 12:55 AM It's regarding CV joint angle. People who have blown the joint often had the front sway bar disconnected and at full droop encountered some nasty torque. travii99 08-28-2002, 09:01 AM Ok, so since I don't disconnect, or do any maajor offroading right now, I woun't be too concerned about it. Thanx.. IceChickenX 09-16-2002, 10:51 PM you would need AALs, Shackles or a new spring pack to lift the back I really hate to ask such basic questions, but How am I to know, if I don't ask? What are AAL's? Shackles? What is their purpose? (besides the obvious from what I'm reading on this thread.....to lift the rear.) Schludwiller 09-16-2002, 11:59 PM Now you're getting lazy.
